2010-12-22rtl818x: move rtl8180 and rtl8187 to separate subdirectoriesJohn W. Linville
These drivers share one header file, but nothing else. Worse, both drivers use the rtl8225 part with different register settings. The results has been some ugly naming -- let's simplify that. 2010-11-15rtl8187: restore anaparam registers after reset with 8187BHerton Ronaldo Krzesinski
Current 8187B initialization misses anaparam registers restore after 8187 reset. This causes ANAPARAM register to stay zeroed out (ANAPARAM2 kept its value on my tests). To avoid this, call rtl8187_set_anaparam right after chip reset (to be on the safe side, as it makes sure we restore all ANAPARAM registers). 2010-11-15rtl8187: remove uneeded setting of anaparam writeHerton Ronaldo Krzesinski
Usually you set RTL818X_CONFIG3_ANAPARAM_WRITE when you are going to change/write ANAPARAM registers. But in current initialization of RTL8187B there is a place where ANAPARAM_WRITE bit is set without any ANAPARAM register being written, without reason, so remove it. 2010-11-15rtl8187: don't set RTL818X_CONFIG3_GNT_SELECT flag on 8187BHerton Ronaldo Krzesinski
The GNTSel bit should only concern pci devices by looking at RTL8180 spec, which is not the case of 8187B. Also testing shows that trying to set this bit fails, a subsequent read from the register after trying to set it shows that the bit isn't set, seems the hardware ignores it, which makes sense. This setting was a left over from Realtek sources. Signed-off-by: Herton Ronaldo Krzesinski <herton@mandriva.com.br> Acked-by: Larry Finger <Larry.Finger@lwfinger.net> Signed-off-by: John W. 2010-11-15rtl8187: avoid redundant write to register FF72 (RFSW_CTRL)Herton Ronaldo Krzesinski

2010-11-15rtl8187: fix wrong register initialization in 8187BHerton Ronaldo Krzesinski
We were using wrong address for BRSR (Basic Rate Set Register) while initializing its value, comparing with Realtek sources, for 8187B case. Also, the same register is initialized in rtl8187b_reg_table, so remove the duplicate initialization from the table. 2010-11-15rtl8187: remove setting of beacon/atim registers from initializationHerton Ronaldo Krzesinski
On 8187B path, we set a initial value for beacon interval and atim window on initialization. But this isn't needed, since same setup is done on rtl8187_config. 2010-11-15rtl8187: remove redundant initialization of ARFRHerton Ronaldo Krzesinski
This removes redundant write to Auto Rate Fallback Register on RTL8187B. The same value was being written twice in the same function. 2010-11-15rtl8187b: do not do per packet TX AGCThadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
Clearing the per packet TX AGC for the RTL8187B device appears to increase its overall TX power. This allows the device to associate and a connection to be established using APs a little further away. This is in accordance to what is done for RTL8187L devices and also what Realtek drivers do. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-12-28rtl8187: remove priv->modeJohn W. Linville
It is checked in add_interface, but there it is easily replaced with a check of priv->vif. If that information should become necessary, it is available in vif->type anyway. It is also checked in led_turn_on and led_turn_off, where I made the substitutions as described above. Of course, these checks seem to have been incorrect since the driver was using NL80211_IFTYPE_MONITOR to indicate no interface rather than NL80211_IFTYPE_UNSPECIFIED. 2009-08-21rtl8187: always set MSR_LINK_ENEDCA flag with RTL8187BHerton Ronaldo Krzesinski
RTL8187B always needs MSR_LINK_ENEDCA flag to be set even when it is in no link mode, otherwise it'll not be able to associate when this flag is not set after the change "mac80211: fix managed mode BSSID handling". By accident, setting BSSID of AP before association makes 8187B to successfuly associate even when ENEDCA flag isn't set, which was the case before the mac80211 change. But now the BSSID of AP we are trying to associate is only available after association is successful, and any attempt to associate without the needed flag doesn't work. 2009-08-20mac80211: allow configure_filter callback to sleepJohannes Berg
Over time, a whole bunch of drivers have come up with their own scheme to delay the configure_filter operation to a workqueue. To be able to simplify things, allow configure_filter to sleep, and add a new prepare_multicast callback that drivers that need the multicast address list implement. This new callback must be atomic, but most drivers either don't care or just calculate a hash which can be done atomically and then uploaded to the hardware non-atomically. A cursory look suggests that at76c50x-usb, ar9170, mwl8k (which is actually very broken now), rt2x00, wl1251, wl1271 and zd1211 should make use of this new capability. 2009-08-04mac80211: redefine usage of the mac80211 workqueueLuis R. Rodriguez
The mac80211 workqueue exists to enable mac80211 and drivers to queue their own work on a single threaded workqueue. mac80211 takes care to flush the workqueue during suspend but we never really had requirements on drivers for how they should use the workqueue in consideration for suspend. We extend mac80211 to document how the mac80211 workqueue should be used, how it should not be used and finally move raw access to the workqueue to mac80211 only. Drivers and mac80211 use helpers to queue work onto the mac80211 workqueue: * ieee80211_queue_work() * ieee80211_queue_delayed_work() These helpers will now warn if mac80211 already completed its suspend cycle and someone is trying to queue work. mac80211 flushes the mac80211 workqueue prior to suspend a few times, but we haven't taken the care to ensure drivers won't add more work after suspend. To help with this we add a warning when someone tries to add work and mac80211 already completed the suspend cycle. Drivers should ensure they cancel any work or delayed work in the mac80211 stop() callback. Signed-off-by: Luis R. Rodriguez <lrodriguez@atheros.com> Signed-off-by: John W. 2009-07-10mac80211: push rx status into skb->cbJohannes Berg
Within mac80211, we often need to copy the rx status into skb->cb. This is wasteful, as drivers could be building it in there to start with. This patch changes the API so that drivers are expected to pass the RX status in skb->cb, now accessible as IEEE80211_SKB_RXCB(skb). It also updates all drivers to pass the rx status in there, but only by making them memcpy() it into place before the call to the receive function (ieee80211_rx(_irqsafe)). Each driver can now be optimised on its own schedule. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>

Thanks to Viktor Ilijašić <viktor.ilijasic@gmail.com> and Xose Vazquez Perez <xose.vazquez@gmail.com> for reporting these new ID's. 2009-01-29rtl8187: Fix driver to return TX retry info for RTL8187LLarry Finger
Current code for the RTL8187 is not returning valid retry information, thus the rate-setting mechanism is not functioning. As a further complication, this info is only obtained by reading a register, which cannot be read while in interrupt context. This patch implements the TX status return to mac80211 through the use of a work queue. One additional problem is that the driver currently enables the rate fallback mechanism of the device, which conflicts with the mac80211 rate-setting algorithm. This version of the patch disables rate fallback. 2009-01-29rtl8187: Increase receive queue depthLarry Finger
The receive queue depth in rtl8187 may not be long enough to keep the pipe full. Signed-off-by: Larry Finger <Larry.Finger@lwfinger.net> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-01-29rtl8187: Fix locking of private dataLarry Finger
In rtl8187_add_interface(), the mutex that protects the data in struct rtl8187_priv does not include all references to that structure. Signed-off-by: Larry Finger <Larry.Finger@lwfinger.net> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-01-23rtl8187: Add termination packet to prevent stallLarry Finger
The RTL8187 and RTL8187B devices can stall unless an explicit termination packet is sent. Signed-off-by: Larry Finger <Larry.Finger@lwfinger.net> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2009-01-12rtl8187: Fix module so that rmmod/insmod does not errorJohannes Berg
Due to misunderstanding of the returned values allowed for the tx callback of mac80211, rtl8187 was using skb's that had been freed. This problem was triggered when the module was sujected to a rmmod/insmod cycle. After that was fixed, the modules would not work after the rmmod/insmod cycle until the USB device was reset. 2008-12-19rtl8187: Fix crash on unload when using SLUB debugHerton Ronaldo Krzesinski
Reported-by: Hin-Tak Leung <htl10@users.sourceforge.net> After the code was modified to use urb anchors ("rtl8187: Use usb anchor facilities to manage urbs"), rtl8187 began generating an intermittent GPF on shutdown when using SLUB with debugging enabled. Furthermore, rebooting the system with a ping running caused a GPF every time. There are two problems: (1) incorrect locking in the rtl8187_rx_cb() routine, a pre-existing bug that apparently had not been triggered before, and (2) duplicate freeing of receive skbs that was probably introduced with the change to anchors.
