2021-04-17airo: work around stack usage warningArnd Bergmann
gcc-11 with KASAN on 32-bit arm produces a warning about a function that needs a lot of stack space: drivers/net/wireless/cisco/airo.c: In function 'setup_card.constprop': drivers/net/wireless/cisco/airo.c:3960:1: error: the frame size of 1512 bytes is larger than 1400 bytes [-Werror=frame-larger-than=] Most of this is from a single large structure that could be dynamically allocated or moved into the per-device structure. However, as the callers all seem to have a fairly well bounded call chain, the easiest change is to pull out the part of the function that needs the large variables into a separate function and mark that as noinline_for_stack. This does not reduce the total stack usage, but it gets rid of the warning and requires minimal changes otherwise. 2020-11-07airo: Replace in_atomic() usage.Sebastian Andrzej Siewior
issuecommand() is using in_atomic() to decide if it is safe to invoke schedule() while waiting for the command to be accepted. Usage of in_atomic() for this is only half correct as it can not detect all condition where it is not allowed to schedule(). Also Linus clearly requested that code which changes behaviour depending on context should either be seperated or the context be conveyed in an argument passed by the caller, which usually knows the context. Add an may_sleep argument to issuecommand() indicating when it is save to sleep and change schedule() to cond_resched() because it's pointless to invoke schedule() if there is no request to reschedule. Pass the may_sleep condition through the various call chains leading to issuecommand(). 2020-11-07airo: Always use JOB_STATS and JOB_EVENTSebastian Andrzej Siewior
issuecommand() is using in_atomic() to decide if it is safe to invoke schedule() while waiting for the command to be accepted. Usage of in_atomic() for this is only half correct as it can not detect all condition where it is not allowed to schedule(). Also Linus clearly requested that code which changes behaviour depending on context should either be seperated or the context be conveyed in an argument passed by the caller, which usually knows the context. Chasing the call chains leading up to issuecommand() is straight forward, but airo_link() and airo_get_stats() would require to pass the context through a quite large amount of functions. As this is ancient hardware, avoid the churn and enforce the invocation of those functions through the JOB machinery. 2020-11-07airo: Invoke airo_read_wireless_stats() directlySebastian Andrzej Siewior
airo_get_wireless_stats() is the iw_handler_if::get_wireless_stats() callback of this driver. This callback was not allowed to sleep until commit a160ee69c6a46 ("wext: let get_wireless_stats() sleep") in v2.6.32. airo still delegates the readout to a thread, which is not longer necessary. Invoke airo_read_wireless_stats() directly from the callback and remove the now unused JOB_WSTATS handling. 2020-09-16airo: switch from 'pci_' to 'dma_' APIChristophe JAILLET
The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. 2020-08-02airo: use generic power managementVaibhav Gupta
Drivers using legacy power management .suspen()/.resume() callbacks have to manage PCI states and device's PM states themselves. They also need to take care of standard configuration registers. Switch to generic power management framework using a single "struct dev_pm_ops" variable to take the unnecessary load from the driver. This also avoids the need for the driver to directly call most of the PCI helper functions and device power state control functions, as through the generic framework PCI Core takes care of the necessary operations, and drivers are required to do only device-specific jobs. Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. 2020-01-23airo: Add missing CAP_NET_ADMIN check in AIROOLDIOCTL/SIOCDEVPRIVATEMichael Ellerman
The driver for Cisco Aironet 4500 and 4800 series cards (airo.c), implements AIROOLDIOCTL/SIOCDEVPRIVATE in airo_ioctl(). The ioctl handler copies an aironet_ioctl struct from userspace, which includes a command. Some of the commands are handled in readrids(), where the user controlled command is converted into a driver-internal value called "ridcode". There are two command values, AIROGWEPKTMP and AIROGWEPKNV, which correspond to ridcode values of RID_WEP_TEMP and RID_WEP_PERM respectively. These commands both have checks that the user has CAP_NET_ADMIN, with the comment that "Only super-user can read WEP keys", otherwise they return -EPERM. However there is another command value, AIRORRID, that lets the user specify the ridcode value directly, with no other checks. This means the user can bypass the CAP_NET_ADMIN check on AIROGWEPKTMP and AIROGWEPKNV. Fix it by moving the CAP_NET_ADMIN check out of the command handling and instead do it later based on the ridcode. That way regardless of whether the ridcode is set via AIROGWEPKTMP or AIROGWEPKNV, or passed in using AIRORID, we always do the CAP_NET_ADMIN check. Found by Ilja by code inspection, not tested as I don't have the required hardware. 2020-01-23airo: Fix possible info leak in AIROOLDIOCTL/SIOCDEVPRIVATEMichael Ellerman
The driver for Cisco Aironet 4500 and 4800 series cards (airo.c), implements AIROOLDIOCTL/SIOCDEVPRIVATE in airo_ioctl(). The ioctl handler copies an aironet_ioctl struct from userspace, which includes a command and a length. Some of the commands are handled in readrids(), which kmalloc()'s a buffer of RIDSIZE (2048) bytes. That buffer is then passed to PC4500_readrid(), which has two cases. The else case does some setup and then reads up to RIDSIZE bytes from the hardware into the kmalloc()'ed buffer. Here len == RIDSIZE, pBuf is the kmalloc()'ed buffer: // read the rid length field bap_read(ai, pBuf, 2, BAP1); // length for remaining part of rid len = min(len, (int)le16_to_cpu(*(__le16*)pBuf)) - 2; ... // read remainder of the rid rc = bap_read(ai, ((__le16*)pBuf)+1, len, BAP1); PC4500_readrid() then returns to readrids() which does: len = comp->len; if (copy_to_user(comp->data, iobuf, min(len, (int)RIDSIZE))) { Where comp->len is the user controlled length field. So if the "rid length field" returned by the hardware is < 2048, and the user requests 2048 bytes in comp->len, we will leak the previous contents of the kmalloc()'ed buffer to userspace. Fix it by kzalloc()'ing the buffer. Found by Ilja by code inspection, not tested as I don't have the required hardware. 2018-11-20crypto: drop mask=CRYPTO_ALG_ASYNC from 'cipher' tfm allocationsEric Biggers
'cipher' algorithms (single block ciphers) are always synchronous, so passing CRYPTO_ALG_ASYNC in the mask to crypto_alloc_cipher() has no effect. 2018-06-12treewide: kmalloc() -> kmalloc_array()Kees Cook
The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This patch replaces cases of: kmalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own implementation of kmalloc(). 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2017-06-20sched/wait: Rename wait_queue_t => wait_queue_entry_tIngo Molnar
Rename: wait_queue_t => wait_queue_entry_t 'wait_queue_t' was always a slight misnomer: its name implies that it's a "queue", but in reality it's a queue *entry*. The 'real' queue is the wait queue head, which had to carry the name. Start sorting this out by renaming it to 'wait_queue_entry_t'. This also allows the real structure name 'struct __wait_queue' to lose its double underscore and become 'struct wait_queue_entry', which is the more canonical nomenclature for such data types. 2017-06-16networking: make skb_put & friends return void pointersJohannes Berg
It seems like a historic accident that these return unsigned char *, and in many places that means casts are required, more often than not. Make these functions (skb_put, __skb_put and pskb_put) return void * and remove all the casts across the tree, adding a (u8 *) cast only where the unsigned char pointer was used directly, all done with the following spatch: @@ expression SKB, LEN; typedef u8; identifier fn = { skb_put, __skb_put }; @@ - *(fn(SKB, LEN)) + *(u8 *)fn(SKB, LEN) @@ expression E, SKB, LEN; identifier fn = { skb_put, __skb_put }; type T; @@ - E = ((T *)(fn(SKB, LEN))) + E = fn(SKB, LEN) which actually doesn't cover pskb_put since there are only three users overall. A handful of stragglers were converted manually, notably a macro in drivers/isdn/i4l/isdn_bsdcomp.c and, oddly enough, one of the many instances in net/bluetooth/hci_sock.c. 2017-04-20Annotate hardware config module parameters in drivers/net/wireless/David Howells
When the kernel is running in secure boot mode, we lock down the kernel to prevent userspace from modifying the running kernel image. Whilst this includes prohibiting access to things like /dev/mem, it must also prevent access by means of configuring driver modules in such a way as to cause a device to access or modify the kernel image. To this end, annotate module_param* statements that refer to hardware configuration and indicate for future reference what type of parameter they specify. The parameter parser in the core sees this information and can skip such parameters with an error message if the kernel is locked down. The module initialisation then runs as normal, but just sees whatever the default values for those parameters is. Note that we do still need to do the module initialisation because some drivers have viable defaults set in case parameters aren't specified and some drivers support automatic configuration (e.g. PNP or PCI) in addition to manually coded parameters. 2016-04-12cfg80211: remove enum ieee80211_bandJohannes Berg
This enum is already perfectly aliased to enum nl80211_band, and the only reason for it is that we get IEEE80211_NUM_BANDS out of it. There's no really good reason to not declare the number of bands in nl80211 though, so do that and remove the cfg80211 one. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com>
