Pull powerpc updates from Michael Ellerman:
- Add support for (optionally) using queued spinlocks & rwlocks.
- Support for a new faster system call ABI using the scv instruction on
Power9 or later.
- Drop support for the PROT_SAO mmap/mprotect flag as it will be
unsupported on Power10 and future processors, leaving us with no way
to implement the functionality it requests. This risks breaking
userspace, though we believe it is unused in practice.
- A bug fix for, and then the removal of, our custom stack expansion
checking. We now allow stack expansion up to the rlimit, like other
architectures.
- Remove the remnants of our (previously disabled) topology update
code, which tried to react to NUMA layout changes on virtualised
systems, but was prone to crashes and other problems.
- Add PMU support for Power10 CPUs.
- A change to our signal trampoline so that we don't unbalance the link
stack (branch return predictor) in the signal delivery path.
- Lots of other cleanups, refactorings, smaller features and so on as
usual.

Changelog of commit dcda9b04713c ("mm, tree wide: replace __GFP_REPEAT by
__GFP_RETRY_MAYFAIL with more useful semantic") has very nice description
of GFP flags that affect reclaim behaviour of the page allocator.
It would be pity to keep this description buried in the log so let's expose
it in the Documentation/ as well.

padata_stop() has two callers and is unnecessary in both cases. When
pcrypt calls it before padata_free(), it's being unloaded so there are
no outstanding padata jobs[0]. When __padata_free() calls it, it's
either along the same path or else pcrypt initialization failed, which
of course means there are also no outstanding jobs.
Removing it simplifies padata and saves text.

This effectively reverts commit 3aa565f53c39 ("powerpc/pseries: Add
hooks to put the CPU into an appropriate offline state"), which added
an offline mode for CPUs which uses the H_CEDE hcall instead of the
architected stop-self RTAS function in order to facilitate "folding"
of dedicated mode processors on PowerVM platforms to achieve energy
savings. This has been the default offline mode since its
introduction.
There's nothing about stop-self that would prevent the hypervisor from
achieving the energy savings available via H_CEDE, so the original
premise of this change appears to be flawed.
I also have encountered the claim that the transition to and from
ceded state is much faster than stop-self/start-cpu. Certainly we
would not want to use stop-self as an *idle* mode. That is what H_CEDE
is for. However, this difference is insignificant in the context of
Linux CPU hotplug, where the latency of an offline or online operation
on current systems is on the order of 100ms, mainly attributable to
all the various subsystems' cpuhp callbacks.
The cede offline mode also prevents accurate accounting, as discussed

Unconditionally use stop-self to offline processor threads. This is
the architected method for offlining CPUs on PAPR systems.
The "cede_offline" boot parameter is rendered obsolete.
Removing this code enables the removal of the partition suspend code
which temporarily onlines all present CPUs.

Patch series "vhost, docs: convert to pin_user_pages(), new "case 5""
It recently became clear to me that there are some get_user_pages*()
callers that don't fit neatly into any of the four cases that are so far
listed in pin_user_pages.rst. vhost.c is one of those.
Add a Case 5 to the documentation, and refer to that when converting
vhost.c.
Thanks to Jan Kara for helping me (again) in understanding the
interaction between get_user_pages() and page writeback [1].
This is based on today's mmotm, which has a nearby patch to
pin_user_pages.rst that rewords cases 3 and 4.
Note that I have only compile-tested the vhost.c patch, although that
does also include cross-compiling for a few other arches. Any run-time
testing would be greatly appreciated.

This patch (of 2):
There are four cases listed in pin_user_pages.rst. These are intended
to help developers figure out whether to use get_user_pages*(), or
pin_user_pages*(). However, the four cases do not cover all the
situations. For example, drivers/vhost/vhost.c has a "pin, write to
page, set page dirty, unpin" case.
Add a fifth case, to help explain that there is a general pattern that
requires pin_user_pages*() API calls.

There are users which print time and date represented by content of
time64_t type in human readable format.
Instead of open coding that each time introduce %ptT[dt][r] specifier.
Few test cases for %ptT specifier has been added as well.

There is an special chapter inside the core-api book about
some debug infrastructure like tracepoints and debug objects.
It sounded to me that this is the best place to add a chapter
explaining how to use a FireWire controller to do remote
kernel debugging, as explained on this document.

Usage of plain %s conversion specifier in bpf_trace_printk() suffers from the
very same issue as bpf_probe_read{,str}() helpers, that is, it is broken on
archs with overlapping address ranges.
While the helpers have been addressed through work in 6ae08ae3dea2 ("bpf: Add
probe_read_{user, kernel} and probe_read_{user, kernel}_str helpers"), we need
an option for bpf_trace_printk() as well to fix it.
Similarly as with the helpers, force users to make an explicit choice by adding
%pks and %pus specifier to bpf_trace_printk() which will then pick the corresponding
strncpy_from_unsafe*() variant to perform the access under KERNEL_DS or USER_DS.
The %pk* (kernel specifier) and %pu* (user specifier) can later also be extended
for other objects aside strings that are probed and printed under tracing, and
reused out of other facilities like bpf_seq_printf() or BTF based type printing.
Existing behavior of %s for current users is still kept working for archs where it
is not broken and therefore gated through CONFIG_ARCH_HAS_NON_OVERLAPPING_ADDRESS_SPACE.
For archs not having this property we fall-back to pick probing under KERNEL_DS as
a sensible default.

As part of pin_user_pages() and related API calls, pages are "dma-pinned".
For the case of compound pages of order > 1, the per-page accounting of
dma pins is accomplished via the 3rd struct page in the compound page. In
order to support debugging of any pin_user_pages()- related problems,
enhance dump_page() so as to report the pin count in that case.
Documentation/core-api/pin_user_pages.rst is also updated accordingly.

Now that pages are "DMA-pinned" via pin_user_page*(), and unpinned via
unpin_user_pages*(), we need some visibility into whether all of this is
working correctly.
Add two new fields to /proc/vmstat:
nr_foll_pin_acquired
nr_foll_pin_released
These are documented in Documentation/core-api/pin_user_pages.rst. They
represent the number of pages (since boot time) that have been pinned
("nr_foll_pin_acquired") and unpinned ("nr_foll_pin_released"), via
pin_user_pages*() and unpin_user_pages*().
In the absence of long-running DMA or RDMA operations that hold pages
pinned, the above two fields will normally be equal to each other.
Also: update Documentation/core-api/pin_user_pages.rst, to remove an
earlier (now confirmed untrue) claim about a performance problem with
/proc/vmstat.
Also: update Documentation/core-api/pin_user_pages.rst to rename the new
/proc/vmstat entries, to the names listed here.

For huge pages (and in fact, any compound page), the GUP_PIN_COUNTING_BIAS
scheme tends to overflow too easily, each tail page increments the head
page->_refcount by GUP_PIN_COUNTING_BIAS (1024). That limits the number
of huge pages that can be pinned.
This patch removes that limitation, by using an exact form of pin counting
for compound pages of order > 1. The "order > 1" is required because this
approach uses the 3rd struct page in the compound page, and order 1
compound pages only have two pages, so that won't work there.
A new struct page field, hpage_pinned_refcount, has been added, replacing
a padding field in the union (so no new space is used).
This enhancement also has a useful side effect: huge pages and compound
pages (of order > 1) do not suffer from the "potential false positives"
problem that is discussed in the page_dma_pinned() comment block. That is
because these compound pages have extra space for tracking things, so they
get exact pin counts instead of overloading page->_refcount.
Documentation/core-api/pin_user_pages.rst is updated accordingly.

Add tracking of pages that were pinned via FOLL_PIN. This tracking is
implemented via overloading of page->_refcount: pins are added by adding
GUP_PIN_COUNTING_BIAS (1024) to the refcount. This provides a fuzzy
indication of pinning, and it can have false positives (and that's OK).
Please see the pre-existing Documentation/core-api/pin_user_pages.rst for
details.
As mentioned in pin_user_pages.rst, callers who effectively set FOLL_PIN
(typically via pin_user_pages*()) are required to ultimately free such
pages via unpin_user_page().
Please also note the limitation, discussed in pin_user_pages.rst under the
"TODO: for 1GB and larger huge pages" section. (That limitation will be
removed in a following patch.)
The effect of a FOLL_PIN flag is similar to that of FOLL_GET, and may be
thought of as "FOLL_GET for DIO and/or RDMA use".
Pages that have been pinned via FOLL_PIN are identifiable via a new
function call:
bool page_maybe_dma_pinned(struct page *page);
What to do in response to encountering such a page, is left to later
patchsets. There is discussion about this in [1], [2], [3], and [4].
This also changes a BUG_ON(), to a WARN_ON(), in follow_page_mask().
