2009-09-30net: Make setsockopt() optlen be unsigned.David S. Miller
This provides safety against negative optlen at the type level instead of depending upon (sometimes non-trivial) checks against this sprinkled all over the the place, in each and every implementation. Based upon work done by Arjan van de Ven and feedback from Linus Torvalds. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2009-06-18net: correct off-by-one write allocations reportsEric Dumazet
commit 2b85a34e911bf483c27cfdd124aeb1605145dc80 (net: No more expensive sock_hold()/sock_put() on each tx) changed initial sk_wmem_alloc value. We need to take into account this offset when reporting sk_wmem_alloc to user, in PROC_FS files or various ioctls (SIOCOUTQ/TIOCOUTQ) Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2009-06-17net: sk_wmem_alloc has initial value of one, not zeroEric Dumazet
commit 2b85a34e911bf483c27cfdd124aeb1605145dc80 (net: No more expensive sock_hold()/sock_put() on each tx) changed initial sk_wmem_alloc value. Some protocols check sk_wmem_alloc value to determine if a timer must delay socket deallocation. We must take care of the sk_wmem_alloc value being one instead of zero when no write allocations are pending. Reported by Ingo Molnar, and full diagnostic from David Miller. This patch introduces three helpers to get read/write allocations and a followup patch will use these helpers to report correct write allocations to user. 2009-04-22net/netrom: Fix socket lockingJean Delvare
Patch "af_rose/x25: Sanity check the maximum user frame size" (commit 83e0bbcbe2145f160fbaa109b0439dae7f4a38a9) from Alan Cox got locking wrong. If we bail out due to user frame size being too large, we must unlock the socket beforehand. Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <jdelvare@suse.de> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-03-27Revert "netrom: zero length frame filtering in NetRom"David S. Miller
This reverts commit a3ac80a130300573de351083cf4a5b46d233e8bf. Alan Cox says that zero length writes do have special meaning and are useful in this protocol. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2009-03-21netrom: zero length frame filtering in NetRomBernard Pidoux
A zero length frame filter was recently introduced in ROSE protocole. Previous commit makes the same at AX25 protocole level. This patch has the same purpose for NetRom protocole. 2008-11-14CRED: Wrap task credential accesses in the netrom protocolDavid Howells
Wrap access to task credentials so that they can be separated more easily from the task_struct during the introduction of COW creds. Change most current->(|e|s|fs)[ug]id to current_(|e|s|fs)[ug]id(). Change some task->e?[ug]id to task_e?[ug]id(). In some places it makes more sense to use RCU directly rather than a convenient wrapper; these will be addressed by later patches. 2008-10-06netrom: Fix sock_orphan() use in nr_releaseJarek Poplawski
While debugging another bug it was found that NetRom socks are sometimes seen unorphaned in sk_free(). This patch moves sock_orphan() in nr_release() to the beginning (like in ax25, or rose). 2008-07-17netdev: Allocate multiple queues for TX.David S. Miller
alloc_netdev_mq() now allocates an array of netdev_queue structures for TX, based upon the queue_count argument. Furthermore, all accesses to the TX queues are now vectored through the netdev_get_tx_queue() and netdev_for_each_tx_queue() interfaces. This makes it easy to grep the tree for all things that want to get to a TX queue of a net device. Problem spots which are not really multiqueue aware yet, and only work with one queue, can easily be spotted by grepping for all netdev_get_tx_queue() calls that pass in a zero index. 2008-06-17netrom: Kill spurious NULL'ing of sk->sk_socket.David S. Miller
In nr_release(), one code path calls sock_orphan() which will NULL out sk->sk_socket already. In the other case, handling states other than NR_STATE_{0,1,2,3}, seems to not be possible other than due to bugs. Even for an uninitialized nr->state value, that would be zero or NR_STATE_0. It might be wise to stick a WARN_ON() here. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2007-11-01[NET]: Forget the zero_it argument of sk_alloc()Pavel Emelyanov
Finally, the zero_it argument can be completely removed from the callers and from the function prototype. Besides, fix the checkpatch.pl warnings about using the assignments inside if-s. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make device event notification network namespace safeEric W. Biederman
Every user of the network device notifiers is either a protocol stack or a pseudo device. If a protocol stack that does not have support for multiple network namespaces receives an event for a device that is not in the initial network namespace it quite possibly can get confused and do the wrong thing. To avoid problems until all of the protocol stacks are converted this patch modifies all netdev event handlers to ignore events on devices that are not in the initial network namespace. As the rest of the code is made network namespace aware these checks can be removed. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-10[NET]: Make socket creation namespace safe.Eric W. Biederman
This patch passes in the namespace a new socket should be created in and has the socket code do the appropriate reference counting. By virtue of this all socket create methods are touched. In addition the socket create methods are modified so that they will fail if you attempt to create a socket in a non-default network namespace. Failing if we attempt to create a socket outside of the default network namespace ensures that as we incrementally make the network stack network namespace aware we will not export functionality that someone has not audited and made certain is network namespace safe. Allowing us to partially enable network namespaces before all of the exotic protocols are supported. Any protocol layers I have missed will fail to compile because I now pass an extra parameter into the socket creation code. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make /proc/net per network namespaceEric W. Biederman
This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace. The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument, and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument. This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces. Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents that are relevant to a single network namespace. 2007-04-25[SK_BUFF]: More skb_put related conversions to skb_reset_transport_headerArnaldo Carvalho de Melo

2007-04-25[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_reset_transport_header(skb)Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo
For the common, open coded 'skb->h.raw = skb->data' operation, so that we can later turn skb->h.raw into a offset, reducing the size of struct sk_buff in 64bit land while possibly keeping it as a pointer on 32bit. This one touches just the most simple cases: skb->h.raw = skb->data; skb->h.raw = {skb_push|[__]skb_pull}() The next ones will handle the slightly more "complex" cases. 2006-12-17[AX.25]: Fix unchecked ax25_linkfail_register usesRalf Baechle

2006-07-12[NETROM] lockdep: fix false positiveRalf Baechle

2006-07-12[NETROM]: Fix locking order when establishing a NETROM circuit.Ralf Baechle

2006-01-03[NET]: Add a dev_ioctl() fallback to sock_ioctl()Christoph Hellwig
Currently all network protocols need to call dev_ioctl as the default fallback in their ioctl implementations. 2006-01-03[NET]: move struct proto_ops to constEric Dumazet
I noticed that some of 'struct proto_ops' used in the kernel may share a cache line used by locks or other heavily modified data. (default linker alignement is 32 bytes, and L1_CACHE_LINE is 64 or 128 at least) This patch makes sure a 'struct proto_ops' can be declared as const, so that all cpus can share all parts of it without false sharing. This is not mandatory : a driver can still use a read/write structure if it needs to (and eventually a __read_mostly) I made a global stubstitute to change all existing occurences to make them const. This should reduce the possibility of false sharing on SMP, and speedup some socket system calls. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2005-09-12[NETROM]: Implement G8PZT Circuit reset for NET/ROMRalf Baechle
NET/ROM is lacking a connection reset like TCP's RST flag which at times may result in a connecting having to slowly timing out instead of just being reset. An earlier attempt to reset the connection by sending a NR_CONNACK | NR_CHOKE_FLAG transport was inacceptable as it did result in crashes of BPQ systems. An alternative approach of introducing a new transport type 7 (NR_RESET) has be implemented several years ago in Paula Jayne Dowie G8PZT's Xrouter. Implement NR_RESET for Linux's NET/ROM but like any messing with the state engine consider this experimental for now and thus control it by a sysctl (net.netrom.reset) which for the time being defaults to off.
