2020-07-27net: prp: add packet handling supportMurali Karicheri
DAN-P (Dual Attached Nodes PRP) nodes are expected to receive traditional IP packets as well as PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) tagged (trailer) packets. PRP trailer is 6 bytes of PRP protocol unit called RCT, Redundancy Control Trailer (RCT) similar to HSR tag. PRP network can have traditional devices such as bridges/switches or PC attached to it and should be able to communicate. Regular Ethernet devices treat the RCT as pads. This patch adds logic to format L2 frames from network stack to add a trailer (RCT) and send it as duplicates over the slave interfaces when the protocol is PRP as per IEC 62439-3. At the ingress, it strips the trailer, do duplicate detection and rejection and forward a stripped frame up the network stack. PRP device should accept frames from Singly Attached Nodes (SAN) and thus the driver mark the link where the frame came from in the node table. 2020-07-27net: hsr: define and use proto_ops ptrs to handle hsr specific framesMurali Karicheri
As a preparatory patch to introduce PRP, refactor the code specific to handling HSR frames into separate functions and call them through proto_ops function pointers. Signed-off-by: Murali Karicheri <m-karicheri2@ti.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2020-07-27net: prp: add supervision frame generation utility functionMurali Karicheri
Add support for generation of PRP supervision frames. For PRP, supervision frame format is similar to HSR version 0, but have a PRP Redundancy Control Trailer (RCT) added and uses a different message type, PRP_TLV_LIFE_CHECK_DD. Also update is_supervision_frame() to include the new message type used for PRP supervision frame. Signed-off-by: Murali Karicheri <m-karicheri2@ti.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2020-07-27net: hsr: introduce protocol specific function pointersMurali Karicheri
As a preparatory patch to introduce support for PRP protocol, add a protocol ops ptr in the private hsr structure to hold function pointers as some of the functions at protocol level packet handling is different for HSR vs PRP. It is expected that PRP will add its of set of functions for protocol handling. Modify existing hsr_announce() function to call proto_ops->send_sv_frame() to send supervision frame for HSR. This is expected to be different for PRP. So introduce a ops function ptr, send_sv_frame() for the same and initialize it to send_hsr_supervsion_frame(). Modify hsr_announce() to call proto_ops->send_sv_frame(). Signed-off-by: Murali Karicheri <m-karicheri2@ti.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2020-07-27net: hsr: introduce common code for skb initializationMurali Karicheri
As a preparatory patch to introduce PRP protocol support in the driver, refactor the skb init code to a separate function. Signed-off-by: Murali Karicheri <m-karicheri2@ti.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2020-07-27hsr: enhance netlink socket interface to support PRPMurali Karicheri
Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) is another redundancy protocol introduced by IEC 63439 standard. It is similar to HSR in many aspects:- - Use a pair of Ethernet interfaces to created the PRP device - Use a 6 byte redundancy protocol part (RCT, Redundancy Check Trailer) similar to HSR Tag. - Has Link Redundancy Entity (LRE) that works with RCT to implement redundancy. Key difference is that the protocol unit is a trailer instead of a prefix as in HSR. That makes it inter-operable with tradition network components such as bridges/switches which treat it as pad bytes, whereas HSR nodes requires some kind of translators (Called redbox) to talk to regular network devices. This features allows regular linux box to be converted to a DAN-P box. DAN-P stands for Dual Attached Node - PRP similar to DAN-H (Dual Attached Node - HSR). Add a comment at the header/source code to explicitly state that the driver files also handles PRP protocol as well. Signed-off-by: Murali Karicheri <m-karicheri2@ti.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2020-07-04hsr: fix interface leak in error path of hsr_dev_finalize()Taehee Yoo
To release hsr(upper) interface, it should release its own lower interfaces first. Then, hsr(upper) interface can be released safely. In the current code of error path of hsr_dev_finalize(), it releases hsr interface before releasing a lower interface. So, a warning occurs, which warns about the leak of lower interfaces. In order to fix this problem, changing the ordering of the error path of hsr_dev_finalize() is needed. 2020-06-22hsr: avoid to create proc file after unregisterTaehee Yoo
When an interface is being deleted, "/proc/net/dev_snmp6/<interface name>" is deleted. The function for this is addrconf_ifdown() in the addrconf_notify() and it is called by notification, which is NETDEV_UNREGISTER. But, if NETDEV_CHANGEMTU is triggered after NETDEV_UNREGISTER, this proc file will be created again. This recreated proc file will be deleted by netdev_wati_allrefs(). Before netdev_wait_allrefs() is called, creating a new HSR interface routine can be executed and It tries to create a proc file but it will find an un-deleted proc file. At this point, it warns about it. To avoid this situation, it can use ->dellink() instead of ->ndo_uninit() to release resources because ->dellink() is called before NETDEV_UNREGISTER. So, a proc file will not be recreated. netdev_upper_dev_link() is useful to manage lower/upper interfaces. And this function internally validates looping, maximum depth. All or most virtual interfaces that could have a real interface (e.g. macsec, macvlan, ipvlan etc.) use lower/upper infrastructure. 2020-02-29hsr: remove unnecessary rcu_read_lock() in hsr moduleTaehee Yoo
In order to access the port list, the hsr_port_get_hsr() is used. And this is protected by RTNL and RCU. The hsr_fill_info(), hsr_check_carrier(), hsr_dev_open() and hsr_get_max_mtu() are protected by RTNL. So, rcu_read_lock() in these functions are not necessary. The hsr_handle_frame() also uses rcu_read_lock() but this function is called by packet path. It's already protected by RCU. So, the rcu_read_lock() in hsr_handle_frame() can be removed. 2019-12-25hsr: reset network header when supervision frame is createdTaehee Yoo
The supervision frame is L2 frame. When supervision frame is created, hsr module doesn't set network header. If tap routine is enabled, dev_queue_xmit_nit() is called and it checks network_header. If network_header pointer wasn't set(or invalid), it resets network_header and warns. In order to avoid unnecessary warning message, resetting network_header is needed. 2019-12-25hsr: fix error handling routine in hsr_dev_finalize()Taehee Yoo
hsr_dev_finalize() is called to create new hsr interface. There are some wrong error handling codes. 1. wrong checking return value of debugfs_create_{dir/file}. These function doesn't return NULL. If error occurs in there, it returns error pointer. So, it should check error pointer instead of NULL. 2. It doesn't unregister interface if it fails to setup hsr interface. If it fails to initialize hsr interface after register_netdevice(), it should call unregister_netdevice(). 3. Ignore failure of creation of debugfs If creating of debugfs dir and file is failed, creating hsr interface will be failed. But debugfs doesn't affect actual logic of hsr module. So, ignoring this is more correct and this behavior is more general. Fixes: c5a759117210 ("net/hsr: Use list_head (and rcu) instead of array for slave devices.") 2019-12-05hsr: fix a NULL pointer dereference in hsr_dev_xmit()Taehee Yoo
hsr_dev_xmit() calls hsr_port_get_hsr() to find master node and that would return NULL if master node is not existing in the list. But hsr_dev_xmit() doesn't check return pointer so a NULL dereference could occur. 2019-07-11hsr: switch ->dellink() to ->ndo_uninit()Cong Wang
Switching from ->priv_destructor to dellink() has an unexpected consequence: existing RCU readers, that is, hsr_port_get_hsr() callers, may still be able to read the port list. Instead of checking the return value of each hsr_port_get_hsr(), we can just move it to ->ndo_uninit() which is called after device unregister and synchronize_net(), and we still have RTNL lock there. 2017-06-07net: Fix inconsistent teardown and release of private netdev state.David S. Miller
Network devices can allocate reasources and private memory using netdev_ops->ndo_init(). However, the release of these resources can occur in one of two different places. Either netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() or netdev->destructor(). The decision of which operation frees the resources depends upon whether it is necessary for all netdev refs to be released before it is safe to perform the freeing. netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() presumably can occur right after the NETDEV_UNREGISTER notifier completes and the unicast and multicast address lists are flushed. netdev->destructor(), on the other hand, does not run until the netdev references all go away. Further complicating the situation is that netdev->destructor() almost universally does also a free_netdev(). This creates a problem for the logic in register_netdevice(). Because all callers of register_netdevice() manage the freeing of the netdev, and invoke free_netdev(dev) if register_netdevice() fails. If netdev_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, but something else fails inside of register_netdevice(), it does call ndo_ops->ndo_uninit(). But it is not able to invoke netdev->destructor(). This is because netdev->destructor() will do a free_netdev() and then the caller of register_netdevice() will do the same. However, this means that the resources that would normally be released by netdev->destructor() will not be. Over the years drivers have added local hacks to deal with this, by invoking their destructor parts by hand when register_netdevice() fails. Many drivers do not try to deal with this, and instead we have leaks. Let's close this hole by formalizing the distinction between what private things need to be freed up by netdev->destructor() and whether the driver needs unregister_netdevice() to perform the free_netdev(). netdev->priv_destructor() performs all actions to free up the private resources that used to be freed by netdev->destructor(), except for free_netdev(). netdev->needs_free_netdev is a boolean that indicates whether free_netdev() should be done at the end of unregister_netdevice(). Now, register_netdevice() can sanely release all resources after ndo_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, by invoking both ndo_ops->ndo_uninit() and netdev->priv_destructor(). And at the end of unregister_netdevice(), we invoke netdev->priv_destructor() and optionally call free_netdev(). Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2016-05-16net/hsr: Use setup_timer and mod_timer.Muhammad Falak R Wani
The function setup_timer combines the initialization of a timer with the initialization of the timer's function and data fields. The mulitiline code for timer initialization is now replaced with function setup_timer. Also, quoting the mod_timer() function comment: -> mod_timer() is a more efficient way to update the expire field of an active timer (if the timer is inactive it will be activated). Use setup_timer() and mod_timer() to setup and arm a timer, making the code compact and aid readablity. Signed-off-by: Muhammad Falak R Wani <falakreyaz@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. interface. To repeat: $ sudo ip link del hsr0 BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000018 IP: [<ffffffff8187f495>] hsr_del_port+0x15/0xa0 etc... Bug description: As part of the hsr master device destruction, hsr_del_port() is called for each of the hsr ports. At each such call, the master device is updated regarding features and mtu. When the master device is freed before the slave interfaces, master will be NULL in hsr_del_port(), which led to a NULL pointer dereference. Additionally, dev_put() was called on the master device itself in hsr_del_port(), causing a refcnt error. A third bug in the same code path was that the rtnl lock was not taken before hsr_del_port() was called as part of hsr_dev_destroy(). The reporter (Nicolas Dichtel) also said: "hsr_netdev_notify() supposes that the port will always be available when the notification is for an hsr interface. It's wrong. For example, netdev_wait_allrefs() may resend NETDEV_UNREGISTER.". As a precaution against this, a check for port == NULL was added in hsr_dev_notify(). 2014-07-08net/hsr: Better frame dispatchArvid Brodin
This patch removes the separate paths for frames coming from the outside, and frames sent from the HSR device, and instead makes all frames go through hsr_forward_skb() in hsr_forward.c. This greatly improves code readability and also opens up the possibility for future support of the HSR Interlink device that is the basis for HSR RedBoxes and HSR QuadBoxes, as well as VLAN compatibility. Other improvements: * A reduction in the number of times an skb is copied on machines without HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS, which improves throughput somewhat. * Headers are now created using the standard eth_header(), and using the standard hard_header_len. * Each HSR slave now gets its own private skb, so slave-specific fields can be correctly set.
