2013-12-06net: Remove FLOWI_FLAG_CAN_SLEEPSteffen Klassert
FLOWI_FLAG_CAN_SLEEP was used to notify xfrm about the posibility to sleep until the needed states are resolved. This code is gone, so FLOWI_FLAG_CAN_SLEEP is not needed anymore. Signed-off-by: Steffen Klassert <steffen.klassert@secunet.com>

2013-03-22rtnetlink: Remove passing of attributes into rtnl_doit functionsThomas Graf
With decnet converted, we can finally get rid of rta_buf and its computations around it. It also gets rid of the minimal header length verification since all message handlers do that explicitly anyway. Signed-off-by: Thomas Graf <tgraf@suug.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2013-03-22decnet: Parse netlink attributes on our ownThomas Graf
decnet is the only subsystem left that is relying on the global netlink attribute buffer rta_buf. It's horrible design and we want to get rid of it. This converts all of decnet to do implicit attribute parsing. It also gets rid of the error prone struct dn_kern_rta. Yes, the fib_magic() stuff is not pretty. It's compiled tested but I need someone with appropriate hardware to test the patch since I don't have access to it. 2013-02-18net: proc: change proc_net_remove to remove_proc_entryGao feng
proc_net_remove is only used to remove proc entries that under /proc/net,it's not a general function for removing proc entries of netns. if we want to remove some proc entries which under /proc/net/stat/, we still need to call remove_proc_entry. this patch use remove_proc_entry to replace proc_net_remove. we can remove proc_net_remove after this patch. 2013-02-18net: proc: change proc_net_fops_create to proc_createGao feng
Right now, some modules such as bonding use proc_create to create proc entries under /proc/net/, and other modules such as ipv4 use proc_net_fops_create. It looks a little chaos.this patch changes all of proc_net_fops_create to proc_create. we can remove proc_net_fops_create after this patch. 2013-01-28decnet: use correct RCU API to deref sk_dst_cache fieldCong Wang
sock->sk_dst_cache is protected by RCU, therefore we should use __sk_dst_get() to deref it once we lock the sock. This fixes several sparse warnings. 2012-09-10netlink: Rename pid to portid to avoid confusionEric W. Biederman
It is a frequent mistake to confuse the netlink port identifier with a process identifier. Try to reduce this confusion by renaming fields that hold port identifiers portid instead of pid. I have carefully avoided changing the structures exported to userspace to avoid changing the userspace API. I have successfully built an allyesconfig kernel with this change. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. 2012-08-09net: Loopback ifindex is constant nowPavel Emelyanov
As pointed out, there are places, that access net->loopback_dev->ifindex and after ifindex generation is made per-net this value becomes constant equals 1. 2012-07-17net: Pass optional SKB and SK arguments to dst_ops->{update_pmtu,redirect}()David S. Miller
This will be used so that we can compose a full flow key. Even though we have a route in this context, we need more. In the future the routes will be without destination address, source address, etc. keying. One ipv4 route will cover entire subnets, etc. In this environment we have to have a way to possess persistent storage for redirects and PMTU information. This persistent storage will exist in the FIB tables, and that's why we'll need to be able to rebuild a full lookup flow key here. Using that flow key will do a fib_lookup() and create/update the persistent entry. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2011-06-09rtnetlink: Compute and store minimum ifinfo dump sizeGreg Rose
The message size allocated for rtnl ifinfo dumps was limited to a single page. This is not enough for additional interface info available with devices that support SR-IOV and caused a bug in which VF info would not be displayed if more than approximately 40 VFs were created per interface. Implement a new function pointer for the rtnl_register service that will calculate the amount of data required for the ifinfo dump and allocate enough data to satisfy the request. 2011-03-12net: Put flowi_* prefix on AF independent members of struct flowiDavid S. Miller
I intend to turn struct flowi into a union of AF specific flowi structs. There will be a common structure that each variant includes first, much like struct sock_common. This is the first step to move in that direction. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2011-02-17net: Add initial_ref arg to dst_alloc().David S. Miller
This allows avoiding multiple writes to the initial __refcnt. The most simplest cases of wanting an initial reference of "1" in ipv4 and ipv6 have been converted, the rest have been left along and kept at the existing "0". Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2011-01-26net: Implement read-only protection and COW'ing of metrics.David S. Miller
Routing metrics are now copy-on-write. Initially a route entry points it's metrics at a read-only location. If a routing table entry exists, it will point there. Else it will point at the all zero metric place-holder called 'dst_default_metrics'. The writeability state of the metrics is stored in the low bits of the metrics pointer, we have two bits left to spare if we want to store more states. For the initial implementation, COW is implemented simply via kmalloc. However future enhancements will change this to place the writable metrics somewhere else, in order to increase sharing. Very likely this "somewhere else" will be the inetpeer cache. Note also that this means that metrics updates may transiently fail if we cannot COW the metrics successfully. But even by itself, this patch should decrease memory usage and increase cache locality especially for routing workloads. In those cases the read-only metric copies stay in place and never get written to. TCP workloads where metrics get updated, and those rare cases where PMTU triggers occur, will take a very slight performance hit. But that hit will be alleviated when the long-term writable metrics move to a more sharable location. Since the metrics storage went from a u32 array of RTAX_MAX entries to what is essentially a pointer, some retooling of the dst_entry layout was necessary. Most importantly, we need to preserve the alignment of the reference count so that it doesn't share cache lines with the read-mostly state, as per Eric Dumazet's alignment assertion checks. The only non-trivial bit here is the move of the 'flags' member into the writeable cacheline. This is OK since we are always accessing the flags around the same moment when we made a modification to the reference count. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2010-12-14net: Abstract default MTU metric calculation behind an accessor.David S. Miller
Like RTAX_ADVMSS, make the default calculation go through a dst_ops method rather than caching the computation in the routing cache entries. Now dst metrics are pretty much left as-is when new entries are created, thus optimizing metric sharing becomes a real possibility. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2010-12-13net: Abstract default ADVMSS behind an accessor.David S. Miller
Make all RTAX_ADVMSS metric accesses go through a new helper function, dst_metric_advmss(). Leave the actual default metric as "zero" in the real metric slot, and compute the actual default value dynamically via a new dst_ops AF specific callback. For stacked IPSEC routes, we use the advmss of the path which preserves existing behavior. Unlike ipv4/ipv6, DecNET ties the advmss to the mtu and thus updates advmss on pmtu updates. This inconsistency in advmss handling results in more raw metric accesses than I wish we ended up with. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2010-12-09net: Abstract away all dst_entry metrics accesses.David S. Miller
Use helper functions to hide all direct accesses, especially writes, to dst_entry metrics values. This will allow us to: 1) More easily change how the metrics are stored. 2) Implement COW for metrics. In particular this will help us put metrics into the inetpeer cache if that is what we end up doing. We can make the _metrics member a pointer instead of an array, initially have it point at the read-only metrics in the FIB, and then on the first set grab an inetpeer entry and point the _metrics member there. 2010-11-08decnet: RCU conversion and get rid of dev_base_lockEric Dumazet
While tracking dev_base_lock users, I found decnet used it in dnet_select_source(), but for a wrong purpose: Writers only hold RTNL, not dev_base_lock, so readers must use RCU if they cannot use RTNL. Adds an rcu_head in struct dn_ifaddr and handle proper RCU management. Adds __rcu annotation in dn_route as well. 2010-10-11net dst: use a percpu_counter to track entriesEric Dumazet
struct dst_ops tracks number of allocated dst in an atomic_t field, subject to high cache line contention in stress workload. Switch to a percpu_counter, to reduce number of time we need to dirty a central location. Place it on a separate cache line to avoid dirtying read only fields. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch.
