2015-01-05net: tcp: add RTAX_CC_ALGO fib handlingDaniel Borkmann
This patch adds the minimum necessary for the RTAX_CC_ALGO congestion control metric to be set up and dumped back to user space. While the internal representation of RTAX_CC_ALGO is handled as a u32 key, we avoided to expose this implementation detail to user space, thus instead, we chose the netlink attribute that is being exchanged between user space to be the actual congestion control algorithm name, similarly as in the setsockopt(2) API in order to allow for maximum flexibility, even for 3rd party modules. It is a bit unfortunate that RTAX_QUICKACK used up a whole RTAX slot as it should have been stored in RTAX_FEATURES instead, we first thought about reusing it for the congestion control key, but it brings more complications and/or confusion than worth it. 2014-04-24net: Use netlink_ns_capable to verify the permisions of netlink messagesEric W. Biederman
It is possible by passing a netlink socket to a more privileged executable and then to fool that executable into writing to the socket data that happens to be valid netlink message to do something that privileged executable did not intend to do. To keep this from happening replace bare capable and ns_capable calls with netlink_capable, netlink_net_calls and netlink_ns_capable calls. Which act the same as the previous calls except they verify that the opener of the socket had the desired permissions as well. 2013-03-22rtnetlink: Remove passing of attributes into rtnl_doit functionsThomas Graf
With decnet converted, we can finally get rid of rta_buf and its computations around it. It also gets rid of the minimal header length verification since all message handlers do that explicitly anyway. Signed-off-by: Thomas Graf <tgraf@suug.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2013-03-22decnet: Parse netlink attributes on our ownThomas Graf
decnet is the only subsystem left that is relying on the global netlink attribute buffer rta_buf. It's horrible design and we want to get rid of it. This converts all of decnet to do implicit attribute parsing. It also gets rid of the error prone struct dn_kern_rta. Yes, the fib_magic() stuff is not pretty. It's compiled tested but I need someone with appropriate hardware to test the patch since I don't have access to it. 2012-11-18net: Push capable(CAP_NET_ADMIN) into the rtnl methodsEric W. Biederman
- In rtnetlink_rcv_msg convert the capable(CAP_NET_ADMIN) check to ns_capable(net->user-ns, CAP_NET_ADMIN). Allowing unprivileged users to make netlink calls to modify their local network namespace. - In the rtnetlink doit methods add capable(CAP_NET_ADMIN) so that calls that are not safe for unprivileged users are still protected. Later patches will remove the extra capable calls from methods that are safe for unprivilged users. Acked-by: Serge Hallyn <serge.hallyn@canonical.com> Signed-off-by: "Eric W. 2011-06-09rtnetlink: Compute and store minimum ifinfo dump sizeGreg Rose
The message size allocated for rtnl ifinfo dumps was limited to a single page. This is not enough for additional interface info available with devices that support SR-IOV and caused a bug in which VF info would not be displayed if more than approximately 40 VFs were created per interface. 2010-11-08decnet: RCU conversion and get rid of dev_base_lockEric Dumazet
While tracking dev_base_lock users, I found decnet used it in dnet_select_source(), but for a wrong purpose: Writers only hold RTNL, not dev_base_lock, so readers must use RCU if they cannot use RTNL. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2008-01-28[NET]: Modify all rtnetlink methods to only work in the initial namespace (v2)Denis V. Lunev
Before I can enable rtnetlink to work in all network namespaces I need to be certain that something won't break. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.Eric W. Biederman
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. 2006-03-20[DECnet]: Endian annotation and fixes for DECnet.Steven Whitehouse
The typedef for dn_address has been removed in favour of using __le16 or __u16 directly as appropriate. All the DECnet header files are updated accordingly. The byte ordering of dn_eth2dn() and dn_dn2eth() are both changed since just about all their callers wanted network order rather than host order, so the conversion is now done in the functions themselves. Several missed endianess conversions have been picked up during the conversion process. The nh_gw field in struct dn_fib_info has been changed from a 32 bit field to 16 bits as it ought to be. One or two cases of using htons rather than dn_htons in the routing code have been found and fixed. There are still a few warnings to fix, but this patch deals with the important cases. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
