2018-11-05tracing/kprobes: Fix strpbrk() argument orderMasami Hiramatsu
Fix strpbrk()'s argument order, it must pass acceptable string in 2nd argument. Note that this can cause a kernel panic where it recovers backup character to code->data. 2018-10-12tracing: probeevent: Fix uninitialized used of offset in parse argsSteven Rostedt (VMware)
Dan's smatch utility found an uninitialized use of offset in a path in parse_probe_args(). Unless an offset is specifically specified for commands that allow them, it should default to zero. 2018-10-10tracing/kprobes: Allow kprobe-events to record module symbolMasami Hiramatsu
Allow kprobe-events to record module symbols. Since data symbols in a non-loaded module doesn't exist, it fails to define such symbol as an argument of kprobe-event. But if the kprobe event is defined on that module, we can defer to resolve the symbol address. Note that if given symbol is not found, the event is kept unavailable. User can enable it but the event is not recorded. 2018-10-10tracing: probeevent: Add $argN for accessing function argsMasami Hiramatsu
Add $argN special fetch variable for accessing function arguments. This allows user to trace the Nth argument easily at the function entry. Note that this returns most probably assignment of registers and stacks. In some case, it may not work well. If you need to access correct registers or stacks you should use perf-probe. 2018-10-10tracing: probeevent: Add array type supportMasami Hiramatsu
Add array type support for probe events. This allows user to get arraied types from memory address. The array type syntax is TYPE[N] Where TYPE is one of types (u8/16/32/64,s8/16/32/64, x8/16/32/64, symbol, string) and N is a fixed value less than 64. The string array type is a bit different from other types. For other base types, <base-type>[1] is equal to <base-type> (e.g. +0(%di):x32[1] is same as +0(%di):x32.) But string[1] is not equal to string. The string type itself represents "char array", but string array type represents "char * array". So, for example, +0(%di):string[1] is equal to +0(+0(%di)):string. 2018-10-10tracing: probeevent: Add symbol typeMasami Hiramatsu
Add "symbol" type to probeevent, which is an alias of u32 or u64 (depends on BITS_PER_LONG). This shows the result value in symbol+offset style. This type is only available with kprobe events. 2018-10-10tracing: probeevent: Unify fetch type tablesMasami Hiramatsu

2018-10-10tracing: probeevent: Introduce new argument fetching codeMasami Hiramatsu
Replace {k,u}probe event argument fetching framework with switch-case based. Currently that is implemented with structures, macros and chain of function-pointers, which is more complicated than necessary and may get a performance penalty by retpoline. This simplify that with an array of "fetch_insn" (opcode and oprands), and make process_fetch_insn() just interprets it. No function pointers are used. 2018-03-23tracing: probeevent: Fix to support minus offset from symbolMasami Hiramatsu
In Documentation/trace/kprobetrace.txt, it says @SYM[+|-offs] : Fetch memory at SYM +|- offs (SYM should be a data symbol) However, the parser doesn't parse minus offset correctly, since commit 2fba0c8867af ("tracing/kprobes: Fix probe offset to be unsigned") drops minus ("-") offset support for kprobe probe address usage. This fixes the traceprobe_split_symbol_offset() to parse minus offset again with checking the offset range, and add a minus offset check in kprobe probe address usage. 2017-10-04tracing: Make traceprobe parsing code reusableTom Zanussi
traceprobe_probes_write() and traceprobe_command() actually contain nothing that ties them to kprobes - the code is generically useful for similar types of parsing elsewhere, so separate it out and move it to trace.c/trace.h. Other than moving it, the only change is in naming: traceprobe_probes_write() becomes trace_parse_run_command() and traceprobe_command() becomes trace_run_command(). 2017-02-15tracing/probes: Fix a warning message to show correct maximum lengthMasami Hiramatsu
Since tracing/*probe_events will accept a probe definition up to 4096 - 2 ('\n' and '\0') bytes, it must show 4094 instead of 4096 in warning message. Note that there is one possible case of exceed 4094. If user prepare 4096 bytes null-terminated string and syscall write it with the count == 4095, then it can be accepted. However, if user puts a '\n' after that, it must rejected. So IMHO, the warning message should indicate shorter one, since it is safer. 2017-02-15tracing: Have traceprobe_probes_write() not access userspace unnecessarilySteven Rostedt (VMware)
The code in traceprobe_probes_write() reads up to 4096 bytes from userpace for each line. If userspace passes in several lines to execute, the code will do a large read for each line, even though, it is highly likely that the first read from userspace received all of the lines at once. I changed the logic to do a single read from userspace, and to only read from userspace again if not all of the read from userspace made it in. I tested this by adding printk()s and writing files that would test -1, ==, and +1 the buffer size, to make sure that there's no overflows and that if a single line is written with +1 the buffer size, that it fails properly. 2016-08-23ftrace: kprobe: uprobe: Show u8/u16/u32/u64 types in decimalMasami Hiramatsu
Change kprobe/uprobe-tracer to show the arguments type-casted with u8/u16/u32/u64 in decimal digits instead of hexadecimal. To minimize compatibility issue, the arguments without type casting are typed by x64 (or x32 for 32bit arch) by default. 2016-06-20tracing: expose current->comm to [ku]probe eventsOmar Sandoval
ftrace is very quick to give up on saving the task command line (see `trace_save_cmdline()`). The workaround for events which really care about the command line is to explicitly assign it as part of the entry. However, this doesn't work for kprobe events, as there's no straightforward way to get access to current->comm. Add a kprobe/uprobe event variable $comm which provides exactly that. 2012-05-07tracing: Provide trace events interface for uprobesSrikar Dronamraju
Implements trace_event support for uprobes. In its current form it can be used to put probes at a specified offset in a file and dump the required registers when the code flow reaches the probed address. The following example shows how to dump the instruction pointer and %ax a register at the probed text address. Here we are trying to probe zfree in /bin/zsh: # cd /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/ # cat /proc/`pgrep zsh`/maps | grep /bin/zsh | grep r-xp 00400000-0048a000 r-xp 00000000 08:03 130904 /bin/zsh # objdump -T /bin/zsh | grep -w zfree 0000000000446420 g DF .text 0000000000000012 Base zfree # echo 'p /bin/zsh:0x46420 %ip %ax' > uprobe_events # cat uprobe_events p:uprobes/p_zsh_0x46420 /bin/zsh:0x0000000000046420 # echo 1 > events/uprobes/enable # sleep 20 # echo 0 > events/uprobes/enable # cat trace # tracer: nop # # TASK-PID CPU# TIMESTAMP FUNCTION # | | | | | zsh-24842 [006] 258544.995456: p_zsh_0x46420: (0x446420) arg1=446421 arg2=79 zsh-24842 [007] 258545.000270: p_zsh_0x46420: (0x446420) arg1=446421 arg2=79 zsh-24842 [002] 258545.043929: p_zsh_0x46420: (0x446420) arg1=446421 arg2=79 zsh-24842 [004] 258547.046129: p_zsh_0x46420: (0x446420) arg1=446421 arg2=79 Signed-off-by: Srikar Dronamraju <srikar@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Acked-by: Steven Rostedt <rostedt@goodmis.org> Acked-by: Masami Hiramatsu <masami.hiramatsu.pt@hitachi.com> Cc: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Ananth N Mavinakayanahalli <ananth@in.ibm.com> Cc: Jim Keniston <jkenisto@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Cc: Linux-mm <linux-mm@kvack.org> Cc: Oleg Nesterov <oleg@redhat.com> Cc: Andi Kleen <andi@firstfloor.org> Cc: Christoph Hellwig <hch@infradead.org> Cc: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@infradead.org> Cc: Anton Arapov <anton@redhat.com> Cc: Peter Zijlstra <peterz@infradead.org> Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20120411103043.GB29437@linux.vnet.ibm.com Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@kernel.org>
