2019-05-07ubifs: Limit number of xattrs per inodeRichard Weinberger
Since we have to write one deletion inode per xattr into the journal, limit the max number of xattrs. In theory UBIFS supported up to 65535 xattrs per inode. But this never worked correctly, expect no powercuts happened. Now we support only as many xattrs as we can store in 50% of a LEB. Even for tiny flashes this allows dozens of xattrs per inode, which is for an embedded filesystem still fine. In case someone has existing inodes with much more xattrs, it is still possible to delete them. UBIFS will fall back to an non-atomic deletion mode. 2019-05-07ubifs: journal: Handle xattrs like filesRichard Weinberger
If an inode hosts xattrs, create deletion entries for each inode. That way we can make sure that upon journal replay UBIFS can find find all xattr inodes. Otherwise it can happen that GC consumed already a LEB which contained parts of the TNC that pointed to the xattrs and we no longer find all xattr inodes, which will confuse the LPT and cause space allocation issues. 2019-05-07ubifs: find.c: replace swap function with built-in oneAndrey Abramov
Replace swap_dirty_idx function with built-in one, because swap_dirty_idx does only a simple byte to byte swap. Since Spectre mitigations have made indirect function calls more expensive, and the default simple byte copies swap is implemented without them, an "optimized" custom swap function is now a waste of time as well as code. 2019-05-07ubifs: Do not skip hash checking in data nodesSascha Hauer
UBIFS bails out early from try_read_node() when it doesn't have to check the CRC. Still the node hash has to be checked, otherwise wrong data could be sneaked into the FS. Fix this by not bailing out early and always checking the node hash. 2019-05-07ubifs: work around high stack usage with clangArnd Bergmann
Building this file with clang can result in large stack usage as seen from this warning: fs/ubifs/auth.c:78:5: error: stack frame size of 1152 bytes in function 'ubifs_prepare_auth_node' The problem is that inlining ubifs_hash_calc_hmac() leads to two SHASH_DESC_ON_STACK() blocks in the same function, and clang for some reason does not reuse the stack space as it should. Putting the first declaration into a separate basic block avoids this problem and reduces the stack allocation to 640 bytes. 2019-04-25crypto: shash - remove shash_desc::flagsEric Biggers
The flags field in 'struct shash_desc' never actually does anything. The only ostensibly supported flag is CRYPTO_TFM_REQ_MAY_SLEEP. However, no shash algorithm ever sleeps, making this flag a no-op. With this being the case, inevitably some users who can't sleep wrongly pass MAY_SLEEP. These would all need to be fixed if any shash algorithm actually started sleeping. For example, the shash_ahash_*() functions, which wrap a shash algorithm with the ahash API, pass through MAY_SLEEP from the ahash API to the shash API. However, the shash functions are called under kmap_atomic(), so actually they're assumed to never sleep. Even if it turns out that some users do need preemption points while hashing large buffers, we could easily provide a helper function crypto_shash_update_large() which divides the data into smaller chunks and calls crypto_shash_update() and cond_resched() for each chunk. It's not necessary to have a flag in 'struct shash_desc', nor is it necessary to make individual shash algorithms aware of this at all. Therefore, remove shash_desc::flags, and document that the crypto_shash_*() functions can be called from any context. 2019-04-17fscrypt: cache decrypted symlink target in ->i_linkEric Biggers
Path lookups that traverse encrypted symlink(s) are very slow because each encrypted symlink needs to be decrypted each time it's followed. This also involves dropping out of rcu-walk mode. Make encrypted symlinks faster by caching the decrypted symlink target in ->i_link. The first call to fscrypt_get_symlink() sets it. Then, the existing VFS path lookup code uses the non-NULL ->i_link to take the fast path where ->get_link() isn't called, and lookups in rcu-walk mode remain in rcu-walk mode. Also set ->i_link immediately when a new encrypted symlink is created. To safely free the symlink target after an RCU grace period has elapsed, introduce a new function fscrypt_free_inode(), and make the relevant filesystems call it just before actually freeing the inode. 2019-04-17fscrypt: fix race where ->lookup() marks plaintext dentry as ciphertextEric Biggers
->lookup() in an encrypted directory begins as follows: 1. fscrypt_prepare_lookup(): a. Try to load the directory's encryption key. b. If the key is unavailable, mark the dentry as a ciphertext name via d_flags. 2. fscrypt_setup_filename(): a. Try to load the directory's encryption key. b. If the key is available, encrypt the name (treated as a plaintext name) to get the on-disk name. Otherwise decode the name (treated as a ciphertext name) to get the on-disk name. But if the key is concurrently added, it may be found at (2a) but not at (1a). In this case, the dentry will be wrongly marked as a ciphertext name even though it was actually treated as plaintext. This will cause the dentry to be wrongly invalidated on the next lookup, potentially causing problems. For example, if the racy ->lookup() was part of sys_mount(), then the new mount will be detached when anything tries to access it. This is despite the mountpoint having a plaintext path, which should remain valid now that the key was added. Of course, this is only possible if there's a userspace race. Still, the additional kernel-side race is confusing and unexpected. Close the kernel-side race by changing fscrypt_prepare_lookup() to also set the on-disk filename (step 2b), consistent with the d_flags update. 2018-12-13ubifs: Handle re-linking of inodes correctly while recoveryRichard Weinberger
UBIFS's recovery code strictly assumes that a deleted inode will never come back, therefore it removes all data which belongs to that inode as soon it faces an inode with link count 0 in the replay list. Before O_TMPFILE this assumption was perfectly fine. With O_TMPFILE it can lead to data loss upon a power-cut. Consider a journal with entries like: 0: inode X (nlink = 0) /* O_TMPFILE was created */ 1: data for inode X /* Someone writes to the temp file */ 2: inode X (nlink = 0) /* inode was changed, xattr, chmod, … */ 3: inode X (nlink = 1) /* inode was re-linked via linkat() */ Upon replay of entry #2 UBIFS will drop all data that belongs to inode X, this will lead to an empty file after mounting. As solution for this problem, scan the replay list for a re-link entry before dropping data. Having two shash descriptors on the stack cause a very significant kernel stack usage that can cross the warning threshold: fs/ubifs/replay.c: In function 'authenticate_sleb': fs/ubifs/replay.c:633:1: error: the frame size of 1144 bytes is larger than 1024 bytes [-Werror=frame-larger-than=] Normally, gcc optimizes the out, but with CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_DEBUGGING, it does not. Splitting the two stack allocations into separate functions means that they will use the same memory again. In normal configurations (optimizing for size or performance), those should get inlined and we get the same behavior as before. 'shash' algorithms are always synchronous, so passing CRYPTO_ALG_ASYNC in the mask to crypto_alloc_shash() has no effect. Many users therefore already don't pass it, but some still do. This inconsistency can cause confusion, especially since the way the 'mask' argument works is somewhat counterintuitive. Thus, just remove the unneeded CRYPTO_ALG_ASYNC flags. 2018-10-23ubifs: Enable authentication supportSascha Hauer
With the preparations all being done this patch now enables authentication support for UBIFS. Authentication is enabled when the newly introduced auth_key and auth_hash_name mount options are passed. auth_key provides the key which is used for authentication whereas auth_hash_name provides the hashing algorithm used for this FS. Passing these options make authentication mandatory and only UBIFS images that can be authenticated with the given key are allowed. 2018-10-23ubifs: Do not update inode size in-place in authenticated modeSascha Hauer
In authenticated mode we cannot fixup the inode sizes in-place during recovery as this would invalidate the hashes and HMACs we stored for this inode. Instead, we just write the updated inodes to the journal. We can only do this after ubifs_rcvry_gc_commit() is done though, so for authenticated mode call ubifs_recover_size() after ubifs_rcvry_gc_commit() and not vice versa as normally done. Calling ubifs_recover_size() after ubifs_rcvry_gc_commit() has the drawback that after a commit the size fixup information is gone, so when a powercut happens while recovering from another powercut we may lose some data written right before the first powercut. This is why we only do this in authenticated mode and leave the behaviour for unauthenticated mode untouched. The LPT needs to be authenticated aswell. Since the LPT is only written during commit it is enough to authenticate the whole LPT with a single hash which is stored in the master node. Only the leaf nodes (pnodes) are hashed which makes the implementation much simpler than it would be to hash the complete LPT. Make sure that during replay all buds can be authenticated. To do this we calculate the hash chain until we find an authentication node and check the HMAC in that node against the current status of the hash chain. After a power cut it can happen that some nodes have been written, but not yet the authentication node for them. These nodes have to be discarded during replay. Nodes that are written to flash can only be authenticated through the index after the next commit. When a journal replay is necessary the nodes are not yet referenced by the index and thus can't be authenticated. This patch overcomes this situation by creating a hash over all nodes beginning from the commit start node over the reference node(s) and the buds themselves. From time to time we insert authentication nodes. Authentication nodes contain a HMAC from the current hash state, so that they can be used to authenticate a journal replay up to the point where the authentication node is. The hash is continued afterwards so that theoretically we would only have to check the HMAC of the last authentication node we find. With this patch the hashes over the index nodes stored in the tree node cache are written to flash and are checked when read back from flash. The hash of the root index node is stored in the master node. During journal replay the hashes are regenerated from the read nodes and stored in the tree node cache. This means the nodes must previously be authenticated by other means. This is done in a later patch. As part of the UBIFS authentication support every branch in the index gets a hash covering the referenced node. To make that happen the tree node cache needs hashes over the nodes. This patch adds a hash argument to ubifs_tnc_add() and ubifs_tnc_add_nm(). The hashes are calculated from the callers of these functions which actually prepare the nodes. With this patch all the leaf nodes of the index tree get hashes, but currently nothing is done with these hashes, this is left for a later patch. With authentication support some nodes (master node, super block node) get a HMAC embedded into them. This patch adds functions to prepare and write such a node. The difficulty is that besides the HMAC the nodes also have a CRC which must stay valid. This means we first have to initialize all fields in the node, then calculate the HMAC (not covering the CRC) and finally calculate the CRC. The superblock node is read/modified/written several times throughout the UBIFS code. Instead of reading it from the device each time just keep a copy in memory and write back the modified copy when necessary. This patch helps for authentication support, here we not only have to read the superblock node, but also have to authenticate it, which is easier if we do it once during initialization.
