2019-10-07fs: ocfs2: fix a possible null-pointer dereference in ocfs2_write_end_nolock()Jia-Ju Bai
In ocfs2_write_end_nolock(), there are an if statement on lines 1976, 2047 and 2058, to check whether handle is NULL: if (handle) When handle is NULL, it is used on line 2045: ocfs2_update_inode_fsync_trans(handle, inode, 1); oi->i_sync_tid = handle->h_transaction->t_tid; Thus, a possible null-pointer dereference may occur. To fix this bug, handle is checked before calling ocfs2_update_inode_fsync_trans(). This bug is found by a static analysis tool STCheck written by us. 2019-10-07fs: ocfs2: fix possible null-pointer dereferences in ocfs2_xa_prepare_entry()Jia-Ju Bai
In ocfs2_xa_prepare_entry(), there is an if statement on line 2136 to check whether loc->xl_entry is NULL: if (loc->xl_entry) When loc->xl_entry is NULL, it is used on line 2158: ocfs2_xa_add_entry(loc, name_hash); loc->xl_entry->xe_name_hash = cpu_to_le32(name_hash); loc->xl_entry->xe_name_offset = cpu_to_le16(loc->xl_size); and line 2164: ocfs2_xa_add_namevalue(loc, xi); loc->xl_entry->xe_value_size = cpu_to_le64(xi->xi_value_len); loc->xl_entry->xe_name_len = xi->xi_name_len; Thus, possible null-pointer dereferences may occur. To fix these bugs, if loc-xl_entry is NULL, ocfs2_xa_prepare_entry() abnormally returns with -EINVAL. These bugs are found by a static analysis tool STCheck written by us. 2019-10-07ocfs2: clear zero in unaligned direct IOJia Guo
Unused portion of a part-written fs-block-sized block is not set to zero in unaligned append direct write.This can lead to serious data inconsistencies. Ocfs2 manage disk with cluster size(for example, 1M), part-written in one cluster will change the cluster state from UN-WRITTEN to WRITTEN, VFS(function dio_zero_block) doesn't do the cleaning because bh's state is not set to NEW in function ocfs2_dio_wr_get_block when we write a WRITTEN cluster. For example, the cluster size is 1M, file size is 8k and we direct write from 14k to 15k, then 12k~14k and 15k~16k will contain dirty data. We have to deal with two cases: 1.The starting position of direct write is outside the file. 2.The starting position of direct write is located in the file. We need set bh's state to NEW in the first case. In the second case, we need mapped twice because bh's state of area out file should be set to NEW while area in file not. 2019-09-24ocfs2: checkpoint appending truncate log transaction before flushingChangwei Ge
Appending truncate log(TA) and and flushing truncate log(TF) are two separated transactions. They can be both committed but not checkpointed. If crash occurs then, both transaction will be replayed with several already released to global bitmap clusters. Then truncate log will be replayed resulting in cluster double free. 2019-09-24ocfs2: further debugfs cleanupsGreg Kroah-Hartman
There is no need to check return value of debugfs_create functions, but the last sweep through ocfs missed a number of places where this was happening. There is also no need to save the individual dentries for the debugfs files, as everything is can just be removed at once when the directory is removed. By getting rid of the file dentries for the debugfs entries, a bit of local memory can be saved as well. 2019-07-12ocfs2: use kmemdup rather than duplicating its implementationFuqian Huang
kmemdup is introduced to duplicate a region of memory in a neat way. Rather than kmalloc/kzalloc + memcpy, which the programmer needs to write the size twice (sometimes lead to mistakes), kmemdup improves readability, leads to smaller code and also reduce the chances of mistakes. Suggestion to use kmemdup rather than using kmalloc/kzalloc + memcpy. 2019-07-12ocfs2/dlm: use struct_size() helperGustavo A. R. Silva
One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example: struct dlm_migratable_lockres { ... struct dlm_migratable_lock ml[0]; // 16 bytes each, begins at byte 112 }; Make use of the struct_size() helper instead of an open-coded version in order to avoid any potential type mistakes. So, replace the following form: sizeof(struct dlm_migratable_lockres) + (mres->num_locks * sizeof(struct dlm_migratable_lock)) with: struct_size(mres, ml, mres->num_locks) Notice that, in this case, variable sz is not necessary, hence it is removed. Currently, the Kbuild core manipulates header search paths in a crazy way [1]. To fix this mess, I want all Makefiles to add explicit $(srctree)/ to the search paths in the srctree. Some Makefiles are already written in that way, but not all. The goal of this work is to make the notation consistent, and finally get rid of the gross hacks. Having whitespaces after -I does not matter since commit 48f6e3cf5bc6 ("kbuild: do not drop -I without parameter"). 2019-05-14ocfs2: fix ocfs2 read inode data panic in ocfs2_igetShuning Zhang
In some cases, ocfs2_iget() reads the data of inode, which has been deleted for some reason. That will make the system panic. So We should judge whether this inode has been deleted, and tell the caller that the inode is a bad inode. For example, the ocfs2 is used as the backed of nfs, and the client is nfsv3. This issue can be reproduced by the following steps. on the nfs server side, ..../patha/pathb Step 1: The process A was scheduled before calling the function fh_verify. Step 2: The process B is removing the 'pathb', and just completed the call to function dput. Then the dentry of 'pathb' has been deleted from the dcache, and all ancestors have been deleted also. The relationship of dentry and inode was deleted through the function hlist_del_init. The following is the call stack. dentry_iput->hlist_del_init(&dentry->d_u.d_alias) At this time, the inode is still in the dcache. Step 3: The process A call the function ocfs2_get_dentry, which get the inode from dcache. Then the refcount of inode is 1. The following is the call stack. nfsd3_proc_getacl->fh_verify->exportfs_decode_fh->fh_to_dentry(ocfs2_get_dentry) Step 4: Dirty pages are flushed by bdi threads. So the inode of 'patha' is evicted, and this directory was deleted. But the inode of 'pathb' can't be evicted, because the refcount of the inode was 1. Step 5: The process A keep running, and call the function reconnect_path(in exportfs_decode_fh), which call function ocfs2_get_parent of ocfs2. Get the block number of parent directory(patha) by the name of ... Then read the data from disk by the block number. But this inode has been deleted, so the system panic. Process A Process B 1. in nfsd3_proc_getacl | 2. | dput 3. fh_to_dentry(ocfs2_get_dentry) | 4. bdi flush dirty cache | 5. ocfs2_iget | [283465.542049] OCFS2: ERROR (device sdp): ocfs2_validate_inode_block: Invalid dinode #580640: OCFS2_VALID_FL not set [283465.545490] Kernel panic - not syncing: OCFS2: (device sdp): panic forced after error [283465.546889] CPU: 5 PID: 12416 Comm: nfsd Tainted: G W 4.1.12-124.18.6.el6uek.bug28762940v3.x86_64 #2 [283465.548382] Hardware name: VMware, Inc. We are getting close to completing this work. Currently, there are only 32 of 2311 of these cases left to be addressed in linux-next. I'm auditing every case; I take a look into the code and analyze it in order to determine if I'm dealing with an actual bug or a false positive, as explained here: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/c2fad584-1705-a5f2-d63c-824e9b96cf50@embeddedor.com/ While working on this, I've found and fixed the several missing break/return bugs, some of them introduced more than 5 years ago. This patch fixes the following warnings: fs/affs/affs.h:124:38: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/configfs/dir.c:1692:11: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/configfs/dir.c:1694:7: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ceph/file.c:249:3: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ext4/hash.c:233:15: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ext4/hash.c:246:15: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ext2/inode.c:1237:7: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ext2/inode.c:1244:7: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ext4/indirect.c:1182:6: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ext4/indirect.c:1188:6: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ext4/indirect.c:1432:6: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ext4/indirect.c:1440:6: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/f2fs/node.c:618:8: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/f2fs/node.c:620:8: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/btrfs/ref-verify.c:522:15: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/gfs2/bmap.c:711:7: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/gfs2/bmap.c:722:7: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/jffs2/fs.c:339:6: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/nfsd/nfs4proc.c:429:12: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ufs/util.h:62:6: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/ufs/util.h:43:6: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/fcntl.c:770:7: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/seq_file.c:319:10: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/libfs.c:148:11: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/libfs.c:150:7: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/signalfd.c:178:7: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] fs/locks.c:1473:16: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] Warning level 3 was used: -Wimplicit-fallthrough=3 This patch is part of the ongoing efforts to enabling -Wimplicit-fallthrough. 2019-04-06block: remove CONFIG_LBDAFChristoph Hellwig
Currently support for 64-bit sector_t and blkcnt_t is optional on 32-bit architectures. These types are required to support block device and/or file sizes larger than 2 TiB, and have generally defaulted to on for a long time. Enabling the option only increases the i386 tinyconfig size by 145 bytes, and many data structures already always use 64-bit values for their in-core and on-disk data structures anyway, so there should not be a large change in dynamic memory usage either. Dropping this option removes a somewhat weird non-default config that has cause various bugs or compiler warnings when actually used. 2019-03-29ocfs2: fix inode bh swapping mixup in ocfs2_reflink_inodes_lockDarrick J. Wong
ocfs2_reflink_inodes_lock() can swap the inode1/inode2 variables so that we always grab cluster locks in order of increasing inode number. Unfortunately, we forget to swap the inode record buffer head pointers when we've done this, which leads to incorrect bookkeepping when we're trying to make the two inodes have the same refcount tree. This has the effect of causing filesystem shutdowns if you're trying to reflink data from inode 100 into inode 97, where inode 100 already has a refcount tree attached and inode 97 doesn't. The reflink code decides to copy the refcount tree pointer from 100 to 97, but uses inode 97's inode record to open the tree root (which it doesn't have) and blows up. This issue causes filesystem shutdowns and metadata corruption! 2019-03-05ocfs2: Use zero-sized array and struct_size() in kzalloc()Gustavo A. R. Silva
Update the code to use a zero-sized array instead of a pointer in structure ocfs2_slot_info and use struct_size() in kzalloc(). Notice that one of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example: struct foo { int stuff; void *entry[]; }; instance = kzalloc(sizeof(struct foo) + sizeof(void *) * count, GFP_KERNEL); Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can now use the new struct_size() helper: instance = kzalloc(struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL); This code was detected with the help of Coccinelle. 2019-03-05ocfs2: fix the application IO timeout when fstrim is runningGang He
The user reported this problem, the upper application IO was timeout when fstrim was running on this ocfs2 partition. the application monitoring resource agent considered that this application did not work, then this node was fenced by the cluster brain (e.g. pacemaker). The root cause is that fstrim thread always holds main_bm meta-file related locks until all the cluster groups are trimmed. This patch will make fstrim thread release main_bm meta-file related locks when each cluster group is trimmed, this will let the current application IO has a chance to claim the clusters from main_bm meta-file. 2019-03-05ocfs2: fix a panic problem caused by o2cb_ctlJia Guo
In the process of creating a node, it will cause NULL pointer dereference in kernel if o2cb_ctl failed in the interval (mkdir, o2cb_set_node_attribute(node_num)] in function o2cb_add_node. The node num is initialized to 0 in function o2nm_node_group_make_item, o2nm_node_group_drop_item will mistake the node number 0 for a valid node number when we delete the node before the node number is set correctly. If the local node number of the current host happens to be 0, cluster->cl_local_node will be set to O2NM_INVALID_NODE_NUM while o2hb_thread still running. The panic stack is generated as follows: o2hb_thread \-o2hb_do_disk_heartbeat \-o2hb_check_own_slot |-slot = &reg->hr_slots[o2nm_this_node()]; //o2nm_this_node() return O2NM_INVALID_NODE_NUM We need to check whether the node number is set when we delete the node. 2019-01-04fs: don't open code lru_to_page()Nikolay Borisov
Multiple filesystems open code lru_to_page(). Rectify this by moving the macro from mm_inline (which is specific to lru stuff) to the more generic mm.h header and start using the macro where appropriate. No functional changes. 2019-01-03Remove 'type' argument from access_ok() functionLinus Torvalds
Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand. It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact. A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's just get this done once and for all. This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form. There were a couple of notable cases: - csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias. - the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing really used it) - microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch. I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed something. Any missed conversion should be trivially fixable, though. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2018-12-28ocfs2: don't clear bh uptodate for block readJunxiao Bi
For sync io read in ocfs2_read_blocks_sync(), first clear bh uptodate flag and submit the io, second wait io done, last check whether bh uptodate, if not return io error. If two sync io for the same bh were issued, it could be the first io done and set uptodate flag, but just before check that flag, the second io came in and cleared uptodate, then ocfs2_read_blocks_sync() for the first io will return IO error. Indeed it's not necessary to clear uptodate flag, as the io end handler end_buffer_read_sync() will set or clear it based on io succeed or failed.
