2017-07-08[SMB3] Improve security, move default dialect to SMB3 from old CIFSSteve French
Due to recent publicity about security vulnerabilities in the much older CIFS dialect, move the default dialect to the widely accepted (and quite secure) SMB3.0 dialect from the old default of the CIFS dialect. We do not want to be encouraging use of less secure dialects, and both Microsoft and CERT now strongly recommend not using the older CIFS dialect (SMB Security Best Practices "recommends disabling SMBv1"). SMB3 is both secure and widely available: in Windows 8 and later, Samba and Macs. 2017-07-08[SMB3] Remove ifdef since SMB3 (and later) now STRONGLY preferredSteve French
Remove the CONFIG_CIFS_SMB2 ifdef and Kconfig option since they must always be on now. For various security reasons, SMB3 and later are STRONGLY preferred over CIFS and older dialects, and SMB3 (and later) will now be the default dialects so we do not want to allow them to be ifdeffed out. In the longer term, we may be able to make older CIFS support disableable in Kconfig with a new set of #ifdef, but we always want SMB3 and later support enabled. 2017-07-08CIFS: Reconnect expired SMB sessionsPavel Shilovsky
According to the MS-SMB2 spec (3.2.5.1.6) once the client receives STATUS_NETWORK_SESSION_EXPIRED error code from a server it should reconnect the current SMB session. Currently the client doesn't do that. This can result in subsequent client requests failing by the server. The patch adds an additional logic to the demultiplex thread to identify expired sessions and reconnect them. When a CIFS filesystem is mounted with the forcemand option and the following command is run on it, lockdep warns about a circular locking dependency between CifsInodeInfo::lock_sem and the inode lock. while echo foo > hello; do :; done & while touch -c hello; do :; done cifs_writev() takes the locks in the wrong order, but note that we can't only flip the order around because it releases the inode lock before the call to generic_write_sync() while it holds the lock_sem across that call. 2017-07-05cifs: Do not modify mid entry after submitting I/O in cifs_call_asyncLong Li
In cifs_call_async, server may respond as soon as I/O is submitted. Because mid entry is freed on the return path, it should not be modified after I/O is submitted. cifs_save_when_sent modifies the sent timestamp in mid entry, and should not be called after I/O. 2017-06-20sched/wait: Split out the wait_bit*() APIs from <linux/wait.h> into ↵Ingo Molnar
<linux/wait_bit.h> The wait_bit*() types and APIs are mixed into wait.h, but they are a pretty orthogonal extension of wait-queues. Furthermore, only about 50 kernel files use these APIs, while over 1000 use the regular wait-queue functionality. So clean up the main wait.h by moving the wait-bit functionality out of it, into a separate .h and .c file: include/linux/wait_bit.h for types and APIs kernel/sched/wait_bit.c for the implementation Update all header dependencies. This reduces the size of wait.h rather significantly, by about 30%. 2017-05-09Don't delay freeing mids when blocked on slow socket write of requestSteve French
When processing responses, and in particular freeing mids (DeleteMidQEntry), which is very important since it also frees the associated buffers (cifs_buf_release), we can block a long time if (writes to) socket is slow due to low memory or networking issues. We can block in send (smb request) waiting for memory, and be blocked in processing responess (which could free memory if we let it) - since they both grab the server->srv_mutex. In practice, in the DeleteMidQEntry case - there is no reason we need to grab the srv_mutex so remove these around DeleteMidQEntry, and it allows us to free memory faster. 2017-05-08fs: cifs: replace CURRENT_TIME by other appropriate apisDeepa Dinamani
CURRENT_TIME macro is not y2038 safe on 32 bit systems. The patch replaces all the uses of CURRENT_TIME by current_time() for filesystem times, and ktime_get_* functions for authentication timestamps and timezone calculations. This is also in preparation for the patch that transitions vfs timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make them y2038 safe. CURRENT_TIME macro will be deleted before merging the aforementioned change. The inode timestamps read from the server are assumed to have correct granularity and range. The patch also assumes that the difference between server and client times lie in the range INT_MIN..INT_MAX. This is valid because this is the difference between current times between server and client, and the largest timezone difference is in the range of one day. All cifs timestamps currently use timespec representation internally. Authentication and timezone timestamps can also be transitioned into using timespec64 when all other timestamps for cifs is transitioned to use timespec64. Macs send the maximum buffer size in response on ioctl to validate negotiate security information, which causes us to fail the mount as the response buffer is larger than the expected response. Changed ioctl response processing to allow for padding of validate negotiate ioctl response and limit the maximum response size to maximum buffer size. Currently the code doesn't recognize asynchronous calls passed by io_submit() and processes all calls synchronously. This is not what kernel AIO expects. This patch introduces a new async context that keeps track of all issued i/o requests and moves a response collecting procedure to a separate thread. This allows to return to a caller immediately for async calls and call iocb->ki_complete() once all requests are completed. When the IP address is gotten from the UNC, use only the address part of the UNC. Else all after the percent sign in an IPv6 link local address is interpreted as a scope id. This includes the slash and share name. A scope id is expected to be an integer and any trailing characters makes the conversion to integer fail.
