2018-11-02nvme-fc: fix request private initializationJames Smart
The patch made to avoid Coverity reporting of out of bounds access on aen_op moved the assignment of a pointer, leaving it null when it was subsequently used to calculate a private pointer. Thus the private pointer was bad. Move/correct the private pointer initialization to be in sync with the patch. 2018-11-02drm/selftests: Add tests for drm_internal_framebuffer_createAlexandru Gheorghe
Add tests that verify that drm_internal_framebuffer_create creates buffers correctly by creating a dummy drm_device with a mock function for the fb_create callback. To decide if a buffer has been created or not it just checks if fb_create callback has been called for the particular drm_mode_fb_cmd2 that's being tested. enabled If we want to be able to write drmselftests for non-static core functions that are not intended to be used by drivers we need this functions to be exported. This adds a macro that is tied of CONFIG_DRM_DEBUG_SELFTEST, and uses that to export drm_internal_framebuffer_create, in order for subsequent patches to be able to test it. 2018-11-02drm: Extend framebuffer_check to handle formats with cpp/char_per_block 0Alexandru Gheorghe
For formats that are supported only with non-linear modifiers it doesn't make to much sense to define cpp or char_per_block, so that will be set to 0. This patch adds a restriction to force having a modifier attached when cpp/char_per_block is 0, and to bypass checking the pitch restriction. This had been discussed here. 2018-11-02drm/fourcc: Add char_per_block, block_w and block_h in drm_format_infoAlexandru Gheorghe
For some pixel formats .cpp structure in drm_format info it's not enough to describe the peculiarities of the pixel layout, for example tiled formats or packed formats at bit level. What's implemented here is to add three new members to drm_format_info that could describe such formats: - char_per_block[3] - block_w[3] - block_h[3] char_per_block will be put in a union alongside cpp, for transparent compatibility with the existing format descriptions. Regarding, block_w and block_h they are intended to be used through their equivalent getters drm_format_info_block_width / drm_format_info_block_height, the reason of the getters is to abstract the fact that for normal formats block_w and block_h will be unset/0, but the methods will be returning 1. Additionally, convenience function drm_format_info_min_pitch had been added that computes the minimum required pitch for a given pixel format and buffer width. Using that the following drm core functions had been updated to generically handle both block and non-block formats: - drm_fb_cma_get_gem_addr: for block formats it will just return the beginning of the block. - framebuffer_check: Use the newly added drm_format_info_min_pitch. - drm_gem_fb_create_with_funcs: Use the newly added drm_format_info_min_pitch. - In places where is not expecting to handle block formats, like fbdev helpers I just added some warnings in case the block width/height are greater than 1. 2018-11-02drm/panel: Add simple panel mode for the ARM RTSMLinus Walleij
Having failed any attempts at a more generic solution, I fall back to the very specific solution: define a simple panel for the ARM RTSM emulated platforms. I am doing this so we can convert all old users from the previous fbdev driver to the PL111 DRM driver. This works fine as far as I can test, provided the device tree for RTSM AEMv8 is augmented accordingly. The main idea behind the series is to use feature checking macros (i.e. __has_attribute) instead of compiler version checks (e.g. GCC_VERSION), which are compiler-agnostic (so they can be shared, reducing the size of compiler-specific headers) and version-agnostic. Other related improvements have been performed in the headers as well, which on top of the use of __has_attribute it has amounted to a significant simplification of these headers (e.g. GCC_VERSION is now only guarding a few non-attribute macros). This series should also help the efforts to support compiling the kernel with clang and icc. A fair amount of documentation and comments have also been added, clarified or removed; and the headers are now more readable, which should help kernel developers in general. The series was triggered due to the move to gcc >= 4.6. In turn, this series has also triggered Sparse to gain the ability to recognize __has_attribute on its own. 2018-11-01of: Fix cpu node iterator to not ignore disabled cpu nodesRob Herring
In most cases, nodes with 'status = "disabled";' are treated as if the node is not present though it is a common bug to forget to check that. However, cpu nodes are different in that "disabled" simply means offline and the OS can bring the CPU core online. Commit f1f207e43b8a ("of: Add cpu node iterator for_each_of_cpu_node()") followed the common behavior of ignoring disabled cpu nodes. This breaks some powerpc systems (at least NXP P50XX/e5500). Fix this by dropping the status check. This creates a defense against at least two classes of flaws: - Uninitialized stack usage. (We continue to work on improving the compiler to do this in other ways: e.g. unconditional zero init was proposed to GCC and Clang, and more plugin work has started too). - Stack content exposure. By greatly reducing the lifetime of valid stack contents, exposures via either direct read bugs or unknown cache side-channels become much more difficult to exploit. This complements the existing buddy and heap poisoning options, but provides the coverage for stacks. The x86 hooks are included in this series (which have been reviewed by Ingo, Dave Hansen, and Thomas Gleixner). The arm64 hooks have already been merged through the arm64 tree (written by Laura Abbott and reviewed by Mark Rutland and Will Deacon). 2018-11-01ntb: idt: Discard temperature sensor IRQ handlerSerge Semin
IDT PCIe-switch temperature sensor interface is very broken. First of all only a few combinations of TMPCTL threshold enable bits really cause the interrupts unmasked. Even if an individual bit indicates the event unmasked, corresponding IRQ just isn't generated. Most of the threshold enable bits combinations are in fact useless and non of them can help to create a fully functional alarm interface. So to speak, we can't create a well defined hwmon alarms based on the IDT PCI-switch threshold IRQs. Secondly a single threshold IRQ (not a combination of thresholds) can be successfully enabled without the issue described above. But in this case we experienced an enormous number of interrupts generated by the chip if the temperature got near the enabled threshold value. Filter adjustment didn't help much. It also doesn't provide a hysteresis settings. Due to the temperature sample fluctuations near the threshold the interrupts spate makes the system nearly unusable until the temperature value finally settled so being pushed either to be fully higher or lower the threshold. All of these issues makes the temperature sensor alarm interface useless and even at some point dangerous to be used in the driver. IDT PCIe switches provide an embedded temperature sensor working within [0; 127.5]C with resolution of 0.5C. They also can generate a PCIe upstream interrupt in case if the temperature passes through specified thresholds. Since this thresholds interface is very broken the created hwmon-sysfs interface exposes only the next set of hwmon nodes: current input temperature, lowest and highest values measured, history resetting, value offset. HWmon alarm interface isn't provided. IDT PCIe switch also've got an ADC/filter settings of the sensor. In order to create a hwmon interface for the IDT PCIe-switch temperature sensor the already available reader method should be improved. Particularly we need to redesign it so one would be able to read temperature/offset values from registers of the passed types. Since IDT sensor interface provides temperature in unsigned format 0:7:1 (7 bits for real value and one for fraction) we also need to have helpers for the typical sysfs temperature data type conversion to and from this format. Even though the IDT PCIe-switch provided temperature offset got the same but signed type it can be translated by these methods too. 2018-10-31net: stmmac: Fix stmmac_mdio_reset() when building stmmac as modulesNiklas Cassel
When building stmmac, it is only possible to select CONFIG_DWMAC_GENERIC, or any of the glue drivers, when CONFIG_STMMAC_PLATFORM is set. The only exception is CONFIG_STMMAC_PCI. When calling of_mdiobus_register(), it will call our ->reset() callback, which is set to stmmac_mdio_reset(). Most of the code in stmmac_mdio_reset() is protected by a "#if defined(CONFIG_STMMAC_PLATFORM)", which will evaluate to false when CONFIG_STMMAC_PLATFORM=m. Because of this, the phy reset gpio will only be pulled when stmmac is built as built-in, but not when built as modules. Fix this by using "#if IS_ENABLED()" instead of "#if defined()".
