2021-01-25watchdog: intel_scu_watchdog: Remove driver for deprecated platformAndy Shevchenko
Intel Moorestown and Medfield are quite old Intel Atom based 32-bit platforms, which were in limited use in some Android phones, tablets and consumer electronics more than eight years ago. There are no bugs or problems ever reported outside from Intel for breaking any of that platforms for years. It seems no real users exists who run more or less fresh kernel on it. The commit 05f4434bc130 ("ASoC: Intel: remove mfld_machine") also in align with this theory. Due to above and to reduce a burden of supporting outdated drivers we remove the support of outdated platforms completely. A separate Kconfig option HAVE_S3C2410_WATCHDOG for Samsung SoCs is not really needed and the s3c24xx watchdog driver can depend on Samsung ARM architectures instead. The "HAVE_xxx_WATCHDOG" pattern of dependency is not popular and Samsung platforms are here exceptions. All others just depend on CONFIG_ARCH_xxx. Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. 2020-05-25watchdog: Add new arm_smc_wdt watchdog driverJulius Werner
This patch adds a watchdog driver that can be used on ARM systems with the appropriate watchdog implemented in Secure Monitor firmware. The driver communicates with firmware via a Secure Monitor Call. This may be useful for platforms using TrustZone that want the Secure Monitor firmware to have the final control over the watchdog. This is implemented on mt8173 chromebook devices oak, elm and hana in arm trusted firmware file plat/mediatek/mt8173/drivers/wdt/wdt.c. 2020-04-01watchdog: Add K3 RTI watchdog supportTero Kristo
Texas Instruments K3 SoCs contain an RTI (Real Time Interrupt) module which can be used as a watchdog. This IP provides a support for windowed watchdog mode, in which the watchdog must be petted within a certain time window. If it is petted either too soon, or too late, a watchdog error will be triggered. 2019-11-18watchdog: jz4740: Use WDT clock provided by TCU driverPaul Cercueil
Instead of requesting the "ext" clock and handling the watchdog clock divider and gating in the watchdog driver, we now request and use the "wdt" clock that is supplied by the ingenic-timer "TCU" driver. The major benefit is that the watchdog's clock rate and parent can now be specified from within devicetree, instead of hardcoded in the driver. Also, this driver won't poke anymore into the TCU registers to enable/disable the clock, as this is now handled by the TCU driver. On the bad side, we break the ABI with devicetree - as we now request a different clock. In this very specific case it is still okay, as every Ingenic JZ47xx-based board out there compile the devicetree within the kernel; so it's still time to push breaking changes, in order to get a clean devicetree that won't break once it musn't. 2019-07-08watchdog: introduce CONFIG_WATCHDOG_OPEN_TIMEOUTRasmus Villemoes
This allows setting a default value for the watchdog.open_timeout commandline parameter via Kconfig. Some BSPs allow remote updating of the kernel image and root file system, but updating the bootloader requires physical access. Hence, if one has a firmware update that requires relaxing the watchdog.open_timeout a little, the value used must be baked into the kernel image itself and cannot come from the u-boot environment via the kernel command line. Being able to set the initial value in .config doesn't change the fact that the value on the command line, if present, takes precedence, and is of course immensely useful for development purposes while one has console acccess, as well as usable in the cases where one can make a permanent update of the kernel command line. HPWDT_NMI_DECODING depends on HP_WATCHDOG and should be next to it. This helps menuconfig identify HPWDT_NMI_DECODING as depending on HP_WATCHDOG. BCM_KONA_WDT_DEBUG depends on BCM_KONA_WDT which depends on COMPILE_TEST. Enabling BCM_KONA_WDT_DEBUG without BCM_KONA_WDT does not make sense, so drop the COMPILE_TEST dependency from it. This also improves menuconfig, which now properly associates BCM_KONA_WDT_DEBUG with BCM_KONA_WDT. Watchdog pretimeout governors were enabled from the default governor selection using "select". As a result, the default governor was always built into the kernel, even if no watchdog driver was loaded. By using "depends on" instead of "select", we are in better control, and the governors can all be built as modules. At the same time, set the default configuration option for pretimeout governors to match WATCHDOG_CORE (meaning all pretimeout governors are by default enabled if pretimeout support is enabled). The practical impact of this change is minimal. Previously, selecting a default governor automatically enabled that governor. Now, a default governor can only be selected if that governor has been enabled. Consequently, the order of governor selection is now reversed: The governor selection is now first, followed by default governor selection.
