2016-02-05PCI: Remove includes of asm/pci-bridge.hBjorn Helgaas
Drivers should include asm/pci-bridge.h only when they need the arch- specific things provided there. Outside of the arch/ directories, the only drivers that actually need things provided by asm/pci-bridge.h are the powerpc RPA hotplug drivers in drivers/pci/hotplug/rpa*. Remove the includes of asm/pci-bridge.h from the other drivers, adding an include of linux/pci.h if necessary. Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com>
2015-05-31scsi: Do not set cmd_per_lun to 1 in the host templateHannes Reinecke
'0' is now used as the default cmd_per_lun value, so there's no need to explicitly set it to '1' in the host template. Signed-off-by: Hannes Reinecke <hare@suse.de> Reviewed-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: James Bottomley <JBottomley@Odin.com>
2015-03-23powerpc: Move Power Macintosh drivers to generic byteswappersDavid Gibson
ppc has special instruction forms to efficiently load and store values in non-native endianness. These can be accessed via the arch-specific {ld,st}_le{16,32}() inlines in arch/powerpc/include/asm/swab.h. However, gcc is perfectly capable of generating the byte-reversing load/store instructions when using the normal, generic cpu_to_le*() and le*_to_cpu() functions eaning the arch-specific functions don't have much point. Worse the "le" in the names of the arch specific functions is now misleading, because they always generate byte-reversing forms, but some ppc machines can now run a little-endian kernel. To start getting rid of the arch-specific forms, this patch removes them from all the old Power Macintosh drivers, replacing them with the generic byteswappers. 2012-03-28Remove all #inclusions of asm/system.hDavid Howells
Remove all #inclusions of asm/system.h preparatory to splitting and killing it. Performed with the following command: perl -p -i -e 's!^#\s*include\s*<asm/system[.]h>.*\n!!' `grep -Irl '^#\s*include\s*<asm/system[.]h>' *` Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com>
2011-10-31scsi: Fix up files implicitly depending on module.h inclusionPaul Gortmaker
The module.h header was implicitly present everywhere, so files with no explicit include of the module infrastructure would build anyway. We are now removing the implicit include, and so we need to call out the module.h file that we need explicitly. Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2010-11-16SCSI host lock push-downJeff Garzik
Move the mid-layer's ->queuecommand() invocation from being locked with the host lock to being unlocked to facilitate speeding up the critical path for drivers who don't need this lock taken anyway. The patch below presents a simple SCSI host lock push-down as an equivalent transformation. No locking or other behavior should change with this patch. All existing bugs and locking orders are preserved. Additionally, add one parameter to queuecommand, struct Scsi_Host * and remove one parameter from queuecommand, void (*done)(struct scsi_cmnd *) Scsi_Host* is a convenient pointer that most host drivers need anyway, and 'done' is redundant to struct scsi_cmnd->scsi_done. Minimal code disturbance was attempted with this change. Most drivers needed only two one-line modifications for their host lock push-down. 2010-06-02powerpc/macio: Fix probing of macio devices by using the right of match tableBenjamin Herrenschmidt
Grant patches added an of mach table to struct device_driver. However, while he changed the macio device code to use that, he left the match table pointer in struct macio_driver and didn't update drivers to use the "new" one, thus breaking the probing. This completes the change by moving all drivers to setup the "new" one, removing all traces of the old one, and while at it (since it changes the exact same locations), I also remove two other duplicates from struct driver which are the name and owner fields. 2009-07-08Remove multiple KERN_ prefixes from printk formatsJoe Perches
Commit 5fd29d6ccbc98884569d6f3105aeca70858b3e0f ("printk: clean up handling of log-levels and newlines") changed printk semantics. printk lines with multiple KERN_<level> prefixes are no longer emitted as before the patch. <level> is now included in the output on each additional use. Remove all uses of multiple KERN_<level>s in formats. Signed-off-by: Joe Perches <joe@perches.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2008-01-30[SCSI] remove use_sg_chainingJames Bottomley
With the sg table code, every SCSI driver is now either chain capable or broken (or has sg_tablesize set so chaining is never activated), so there's no need to have a check in the host template. Also tidy up the code by moving the scatterlist size defines into the SCSI includes and permit the last entry of the scatterlist pools not to be a power of two. 2007-10-16[SCSI] add use_sg_chaining option to scsi_host_templateFUJITA Tomonori
This option is true if a low-level driver can support sg chaining. This will be removed eventually when all the drivers are converted to support sg chaining. q->max_phys_segments is set to SCSI_MAX_SG_SEGMENTS if false. 2006-10-05IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlersDavid Howells
Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the Linux kernel. The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path (ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()). Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception handling. Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing. I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers. I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile with minimal configurations. This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy. Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one: struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs); And put the old one back at the end: set_irq_regs(old_regs); Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ(). In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary: - update_process_times(user_mode(regs)); - profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs); + update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs())); + profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING); I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself, except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode(). Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers: (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in the input_dev struct. (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs pointer or not. (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type irq_handler_t. 2006-01-09[PATCH] powerpc: Remove device_node addrs/n_addrBenjamin Herrenschmidt
The pre-parsed addrs/n_addrs fields in struct device_node are finally gone. Remove the dodgy heuristics that did that parsing at boot and remove the fields themselves since we now have a good replacement with the new OF parsing code. This patch also fixes a bunch of drivers to use the new code instead, so that at least pmac32, pseries, iseries and g5 defconfigs build. 2005-07-06[PATCH] openfirmware: generate device table for userspaceJeff Mahoney
This converts the usage of struct of_match to struct of_device_id, similar to pci_device_id. This allows a device table to be generated, which can be parsed by depmod(8) to generate a map file for module loading. In order for hotplug to work with macio devices, patches to module-init-tools and hotplug must be applied. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
