Handle up to 8 block layer requests per HW request. These requests can be processed in parallel on the device leading to better throughput (and less interrupts). The overhead for additional requests is small since we don't blindly allocate new aidaws but try to use what's left of the previous one. AOBs (the structure describing the HW request) need to be 4K aligned but very little of that page is actually used. With this patch we place aidaws at the end of the AOB page and only allocate a separate page for aidaws when we have to (lists of aidaws must not cross page boundaries). During device activation all paths could be lost and since the device is not active it has no indication of this fact - hence the CQR will time-out. The following cancelation might fail with -EINVAL because CIO took over control and started path verification. In this case mark the CQR as being CLEARED since it could not be running any more. All drivers use the implementation for ramping the queue up and down, so instead of overloading the change_queue_depth method call the implementation diretly if the driver opts into it by setting the track_queue_depth flag in the host template. Note that a few drivers validated the new queue depth in their change_queue_depth method, but as we never go over the queue depth set during slave_configure or the sysfs file this isn't nessecary and can safely be removed. 2014-11-20zfcp: auto port scan resiliencyMartin Peschke
This patch improves the Fibre Channel port scan behaviour of the zfcp lldd. Without it the zfcp device driver may churn up the storage area network by excessive scanning and scan bursts, particularly in big virtual server environments, potentially resulting in interference of virtual servers and reduced availability of storage connectivity. The two main issues as to the zfcp device drivers automatic port scan in virtual server environments are frequency and simultaneity. On the one hand, there is no point in allowing lots of ports scans in a row. It makes sense, though, to make sure that a scan is conducted eventually if there has been any indication for potential SAN changes. On the other hand, lots of virtual servers receiving the same indication for a SAN change had better not attempt to conduct a scan instantly, that is, at the same time. Hence this patch has a two-fold approach for better port scanning: the introduction of a rate limit to amend frequency issues, and the introduction of a short random backoff to amend simultaneity issues. Both approaches boil down to deferred port scans, with delays comprising parts for both approaches. But care is needed whenever that worker is going to be flushed (in order to make sure work has been completed), since a flush operation cancels the timer set up for deferred execution (see * above). There is a small race window whenever a port scan work starts running up to the point in time of storing the time stamp for that port scan. The impact is negligible. Closing that gap isn't trivial, though, and would the destroy the beauty of a simple work-to-delayed-work conversion. 2014-11-20zfcp: bring back unit sysfs attributes for automatic LUN scanSteffen Maier
Through sysfs attributes, zfcp unit objects provide a trigger for manual LUN recovery and export information for problem determination. With commit f8210e34887e1feb977a9b6b8caa086855af40c9 "[SCSI] zfcp: Allow midlayer to scan for LUNs when running in NPIV mode" and when attaching SCSI devices through this new optional method, no more zfcp unit objects are allocated for such SCSI devices. Hence, the above-mentioned trigger and information were missing. The information and context is located in SCSI transport device data since b62a8d9b45b971a67a0f8413338c230e3117dff5 "[SCSI] zfcp: Use SCSI device data zfcp_scsi_dev instead of zfcp_unit" 57c237731b92fadc7d44824276313ec330b1989b "[SCSI] zfcp: Add zfcp private struct as SCSI device driver data" Hence, introduce the trigger and the information unconditionally for all SCSI devices attached through zfcp. We prefix the attribute names with 'zfcp_' to prevent collisions and to avoid mix-ups such as with the common 'state' attribute. Since some of the new attribute views do not need zfcp_port in the ZFCP_DEFINE_SCSI_ATTR helper macro, remove zfcp_port to avoid compiler warnings on unused variable. It's easy to open code the conversion from zfcp_scsi_dev to zfcp_port for the two already existing attributes hba_id and wwpn. The corresponding flag was cleared, but never set. So clean it up. Sysfs flag is kept, though, for backward-compatibility. Now it returns always 0. 2014-11-12scsi: don't set tagging state from scsi_adjust_queue_depthChristoph Hellwig
Remove the tagged argument from scsi_adjust_queue_depth, and just let it handle the queue depth. For most drivers those two are fairly separate, given that most modern drivers don't care about the SCSI "tagged" status of a command at all, and many old drivers allow queuing of multiple untagged commands in the driver. Instead we start out with the ->simple_tags flag set before calling ->slave_configure, which is how all drivers actually looking at ->simple_tags except for one worke anyway. The one other case looks broken, but I've kept the behavior as-is for now. Except for that we only change ->simple_tags from the ->change_queue_type, and when rejecting a tag message in a single driver, so keeping this churn out of scsi_adjust_queue_depth is a clear win. Now that the usage of scsi_adjust_queue_depth is more obvious we can also remove all the trivial instances in ->slave_alloc or ->slave_configure that just set it to the cmd_per_lun default. This patch fixes trace formatting issues using the QETH_CARD_TEXT_ macro. The total size of each trace entry is 8 bytes. Some of the sprintf formats exceed these 8 bytes (for example using abcd:%d and the converted value needs more than 3 bytes). The solution is to shorten the text prepending the value or use a different format (%x). Replace duplicated code in all transports with a single wrapper in virtio.c. The only functional change is in virtio_mmio.c: if a buggy device sends us an interrupt before driver is set, we previously returned IRQ_NONE, now we return IRQ_HANDLED. As this must not happen in practice, this does not look like a big deal. 2014-10-14s390/cio: replace strnicmp with strncasecmpRasmus Villemoes
The kernel used to contain two functions for length-delimited, case-insensitive string comparison, strnicmp with correct semantics and a slightly buggy strncasecmp. The latter is the POSIX name, so strnicmp was renamed to strncasecmp, and strnicmp made into a wrapper for the new strncasecmp to avoid breaking existing users. To allow the compat wrapper strnicmp to be removed at some point in the future, and to avoid the extra indirection cost, do s/strnicmp/strncasecmp/g. 2014-10-09s390/kdump: add support for vector extensionMichael Holzheu
With this patch for kdump the s390 vector registers are stored into the prepared save areas in the old kernel and into the REGSET_VX_LOW and REGSET_VX_HIGH ELF notes for /proc/vmcore in the new kernel. The NT_S390_VXRS_LOW note contains the lower halves of the first 16 vector registers 0-15. The higher halves are stored in the floating point register ELF note. The NT_S390_VXRS_HIGH contains the full vector registers 16-31. The kernel provides a save area for storing vector register in case of machine checks. A pointer to this save are is stored in the CPU lowcore at offset 0x11b0. This save area is also used to save the registers for kdump. In case of a dumped crashed kdump those areas are used to extract the registers of the production system. The vector registers for remote CPUs are stored using the "store additional status at address" SIGP. For the dump CPU the vector registers are stored with the VSTM instruction. With this patch also zfcpdump stores the vector registers. Testing xmit_more support with netperf and connected UDP sockets, I found strange dst refcount false sharing. Current handling of IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE is not optimal. Dropping dst in validate_xmit_skb() is certainly too late in case packet was queued by cpu X but dequeued by cpu Y The logical point to take care of drop/force is in __dev_queue_xmit() before even taking qdisc lock. As Julian Anastasov pointed out, need for skb_dst() might come from some packet schedulers or classifiers. This patch adds new helper to cleanly express needs of various drivers or qdiscs/classifiers. Drivers that need skb_dst() in their ndo_start_xmit() should call following helper in their setup instead of the prior : dev->priv_flags &= ~IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE; -> netif_keep_dst(dev); Instead of using a single bit, we use two bits, one being eventually rebuilt in bonding/team drivers. The other one, is permanent and blocks IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE being rebuilt in bonding/team. Eventually, we could add something smarter later.
