Pull removal of GENERIC_GPIO from Grant Likely: "GENERIC_GPIO now synonymous with GPIOLIB. There are no longer any valid cases for enableing GENERIC_GPIO without GPIOLIB, even though it is possible to do so which has been causing confusion and breakage. In case of fixed speed set up for a NIC (e.g. ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off speed 100 duplex full) with an ethernet cable plugged off, the mentioned algorithm slows down a NIC speed, so further cable hook-up leads to nonoperable link state. 2013-03-12mv643xx_eth with 88E1318S: support Wake on LANMichael Stapelberg
This has been tested on a qnap TS-119P II. Note that enabling WOL with "ethtool -s eth0 wol g" is not enough; you also need to tell the PIC microcontroller inside the qnap that WOL should be enabled by sending 0xF2 with qcontrol(1) and you have to disable EUP ("Energy-using Products", a European power-saving thing) by sending 0xF4. 2013-03-12phy/micrel: move flag handling to function for common useHector Palacios
The flag MICREL_PHY_50MHZ_CLK is not of exclusive use of KSZ8051 model. At least KSZ8021 and KSZ8031 models also use it. This patch moves the handling of this and future flags to a separate function so that the different PHY models can call it on their init function, if needed. 2013-02-28phy: Fix phy_device_free memory leakPetr Malat
Fix memory leak in phy_device_free() for the case when phy_device* returned by phy_device_create() is not registered in the system. Bug description: phy_device_create() sets name of kobject using dev_set_name(), which allocates memory using kvasprintf(), but this memory isn't freed if the underlying device isn't registered properly, because kobject_cleanup() is not called in that case. This can happen (and actually is happening on our machines) if phy_device_register(), called by mdiobus_scan(), fails. Patch description: Embedded struct device is initialized in phy_device_create() and it counterpart phy_device_free() just drops one reference to the device, which leads to proper deinitialization including releasing the kobject name memory. 2013-02-13gpio: Make of_count_named_gpios() use new of_count_phandle_with_args()Grant Likely
This patch replaces the horribly coded of_count_named_gpios() with a call to of_count_phandle_with_args() which is far more efficient. This also changes the return value of of_gpio_count() & of_gpio_named_count() from 'unsigned int' to 'int' so that it can return an error code. 2013-01-14net: phy: remove flags argument from phy_{attach, connect, connect_direct}Florian Fainelli
The flags argument of the phy_{attach,connect,connect_direct} functions is then used to assign a struct phy_device dev_flags with its value. All callers but the tg3 driver pass the flag 0, which results in the underlying PHY drivers in drivers/net/phy/ not being able to actually use any of the flags they would set in dev_flags. This patch gets rid of the flags argument, and passes phydev->dev_flags to the internal PHY library call phy_attach_direct() such that drivers which actually modify a phy device dev_flags get the value preserved for use by the underlying phy driver. 2012-11-19of/net/mdio-gpio: Fix pdev->id issue when using devicetrees.Srinivas Kandagatla
When the mdio-gpio driver is probed via device trees, the platform device id is set as -1, However the pdev->id is re-used as bus-id for while creating mdio gpio bus. So For device tree case the mdio-gpio bus name appears as "gpio-ffffffff" where as for non-device tree case the bus name appears as "gpio-<bus-num>" Which means the bus_id is fixed in device tree case, so we can't have two mdio gpio buses via device trees. Assigning a logical bus number via device tree solves the problem and the bus name is much consistent with non-device tree bus name. Without this patch 1. we can't support two mdio-gpio buses via device trees. 2. we should always pass gpio-ffffffff as bus name to phy_connect, very different to non-device tree bus name. So, setting up the bus_id via aliases from device tree is the right solution and other drivers do similar thing. 2012-11-15net: phy: smsc: Re-enable EDPD mode for LAN87xxPatrick Trantham
This patch re-enables Energy Detect Power Down (EDPD) mode for the LAN8710/LAN8720. EDPD mode was disabled in a previous commit, (b629820d18fa65cc598390e4b9712fd5f83ee693), because it was causing the PHY to not be able to detect a link when cold started without a cable connected. The LAN8710/LAN8720 requires a minimum of 2 link pulses within 64ms of each other in order to set the ENERGYON bit and exit EDPD mode. If a link partner does send the pulses within this interval, the PHY will remained powered down. This workaround will manually toggle the PHY on/off upon calls to read_status in order to generate link test pulses if the link is down. If a link partner is present, it will respond to the pulses, which will cause the ENERGYON bit to be set and will cause the EDPD mode to be exited. 2012-11-14Revert "drivers/net/phy/mdio-bitbang.c: Call mdiobus_unregister before ↵David S. Miller
mdiobus_free" This reverts commit aa731872f7d33dcb8b54dad0cfb82d4e4d195d7e. As pointed out by Ben Hutchings, this change is not correct. mdiobus_unregister() can't be called if the bus isn't registered yet, however this change can result in situations which cause that to happen. Part of the confusion here revolves around the fact that the callers of this module control registration/unregistration, rather than the module itself. Signed-off-by: David S.
