2018-07-05net: ethernet: sun: remove redundant variables adv and lpa and mii_readsColin Ian King
Variables adv and lpa are being assigned but are never used hence they are redundant and can be removed. Also remove the unncessary mii_reads too. Cleans up clang warnings: warning: variable 'lpa' set but not used [-Wunused-but-set-variable] warning: variable 'adv' set but not used [-Wunused-but-set-variable] Signed-off-by: Colin Ian King <colin.king@canonical.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2018-05-04net: ethernet: sun: niu set correct packet size in skbRob Taglang
Currently, skb->len and skb->data_len are set to the page size, not the packet size. This causes the frame check sequence to not be located at the "end" of the packet resulting in ethernet frame check errors. The driver does work currently, but stricter kernel facing networking solutions like OpenVSwitch will drop these packets as invalid. These changes set the packet size correctly so that these errors no longer occur. The length does not include the frame check sequence, so that subtraction was removed. Tested on Oracle/SUN Multithreaded 10-Gigabit Ethernet Network Controller [108e:abcd] and validated in wireshark. Signed-off-by: Rob Taglang <rob@taglang.io> Signed-off-by: David S. 2017-10-25locking/atomics: COCCINELLE/treewide: Convert trivial ACCESS_ONCE() patterns ↵Mark Rutland
to READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() Please do not apply this to mainline directly, instead please re-run the coccinelle script shown below and apply its output. For several reasons, it is desirable to use {READ,WRITE}_ONCE() in preference to ACCESS_ONCE(), and new code is expected to use one of the former. So far, there's been no reason to change most existing uses of ACCESS_ONCE(), as these aren't harmful, and changing them results in churn. However, for some features, the read/write distinction is critical to correct operation. To distinguish these cases, separate read/write accessors must be used. This patch migrates (most) remaining ACCESS_ONCE() instances to {READ,WRITE}_ONCE(), using the following coccinelle script: ---- // Convert trivial ACCESS_ONCE() uses to equivalent READ_ONCE() and // WRITE_ONCE() // $ make coccicheck COCCI=/home/mark/once.cocci SPFLAGS="--include-headers" MODE=patch virtual patch @ depends on patch @ expression E1, E2; @@ - ACCESS_ONCE(E1) = E2 + WRITE_ONCE(E1, E2) @ depends on patch @ expression E; @@ - ACCESS_ONCE(E) + READ_ONCE(E) ---- Signed-off-by: Mark Rutland <mark.rutland@arm.com> Signed-off-by: Paul E. 2016-03-17mm: introduce page reference manipulation functionsJoonsoo Kim
The success of CMA allocation largely depends on the success of migration and key factor of it is page reference count. Until now, page reference is manipulated by direct calling atomic functions so we cannot follow up who and where manipulate it. Then, it is hard to find actual reason of CMA allocation failure. CMA allocation should be guaranteed to succeed so finding offending place is really important. In this patch, call sites where page reference is manipulated are converted to introduced wrapper function. This is preparation step to add tracepoint to each page reference manipulation function. With this facility, we can easily find reason of CMA allocation failure. There is no functional change in this patch. In addition, this patch also converts reference read sites. It will help a second step that renames page._count to something else and prevents later attempt to direct access to it (Suggested by Andrew). 2012-12-07drivers/net: fix up function prototypes after __dev* removalsGreg Kroah-Hartman
The __dev* removal patches for the network drivers ended up messing up the function prototypes for a bunch of drivers. This patch fixes all of them back up to be properly aligned. Bonus is that this almost removes 100 lines of code, always a nice surprise. Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2012-10-07drivers/net/ethernet/sun/niu.c: fix error return codePeter Senna Tschudin
The function niu_pci_init_one() return 0 for success and negative value for most of its internal tests failures. There is one exception that is error case going to err_out_free_res:. For this error case, the function abort its success execution path, but returns non negative value, making it difficult for a caller function to notice the error. This patch fixes the error case that do not return negative value. This was found by Coccinelle, but the code change was made by hand. This patch is not robot generated. A simplified version of the semantic match that finds this problem is as follows: (http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/) // <smpl> ( if@p1 (\(ret < 0\|ret != 0\)) { ... return ret; } | ret@p1 = 0 ) ... when != ret = e1 when != &ret *if(...) { ... when != ret = e2 when forall return ret; } // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Peter Senna Tschudin <peter.senna@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2012-10-02Merge branch 'for-3.7' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tj/wqLinus Torvalds
Pull workqueue changes from Tejun Heo: "This is workqueue updates for v3.7-rc1. A lot of activities this round including considerable API and behavior cleanups. * delayed_work combines a timer and a work item. The handling of the timer part has always been a bit clunky leading to confusing cancelation API with weird corner-case behaviors. delayed_work is updated to use new IRQ safe timer and cancelation now works as expected. * Another deficiency of delayed_work was lack of the counterpart of mod_timer() which led to cancel+queue combinations or open-coded timer+work usages. mod_delayed_work[_on]() are added. These two delayed_work changes make delayed_work provide interface and behave like timer which is executed with process context. * A work item could be executed concurrently on multiple CPUs, which is rather unintuitive and made flush_work() behavior confusing and half-broken under certain circumstances. This problem doesn't exist for non-reentrant workqueues. While non-reentrancy check isn't free, the overhead is incurred only when a work item bounces across different CPUs and even in simulated pathological scenario the overhead isn't too high. All workqueues are made non-reentrant. This removes the distinction between flush_[delayed_]work() and flush_[delayed_]_work_sync(). The former is now as strong as the latter and the specified work item is guaranteed to have finished execution of any previous queueing on return. * In addition to the various bug fixes, Lai redid and simplified CPU hotplug handling significantly. * Joonsoo introduced system_highpri_wq and used it during CPU hotplug. There are two merge commits - one to pull in IRQ safe timer from tip/timers/core and the other to pull in CPU hotplug fixes from wq/for-3.6-fixes as Lai's hotplug restructuring depended on them." Fixed a number of trivial conflicts, but the more interesting conflicts were silent ones where the deprecated interfaces had been used by new code in the merge window, and thus didn't cause any real data conflicts. Tejun pointed out a few of them, I fixed a couple more. * 'for-3.7' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tj/wq: (46 commits) workqueue: remove spurious WARN_ON_ONCE(in_irq()) from try_to_grab_pending() workqueue: use cwq_set_max_active() helper for workqueue_set_max_active() workqueue: introduce cwq_set_max_active() helper for thaw_workqueues() workqueue: remove @delayed from cwq_dec_nr_in_flight() workqueue: fix possible stall on try_to_grab_pending() of a delayed work item workqueue: use hotcpu_notifier() for workqueue_cpu_down_callback() workqueue: use __cpuinit instead of __devinit for cpu callbacks workqueue: rename manager_mutex to assoc_mutex workqueue: WORKER_REBIND is no longer necessary for idle rebinding workqueue: WORKER_REBIND is no longer necessary for busy rebinding workqueue: reimplement idle worker rebinding workqueue: deprecate __cancel_delayed_work() workqueue: reimplement cancel_delayed_work() using try_to_grab_pending() workqueue: use mod_delayed_work() instead of __cancel + queue workqueue: use irqsafe timer for delayed_work workqueue: clean up delayed_work initializers and add missing one workqueue: make deferrable delayed_work initializer names consistent workqueue: cosmetic whitespace updates for macro definitions workqueue: deprecate system_nrt[_freezable]_wq workqueue: deprecate flush[_delayed]_work_sync() ...

2012-08-20workqueue: deprecate flush[_delayed]_work_sync()Tejun Heo
flush[_delayed]_work_sync() are now spurious. Mark them deprecated and convert all users to flush[_delayed]_work(). If you're cc'd and wondering what's going on: Now all workqueues are non-reentrant and the regular flushes guarantee that the work item is not pending or running on any CPU on return, so there's no reason to use the sync flushes at all and they're going away. This patch doesn't make any functional difference. 2012-06-08Revert "niu: Add support for byte queue limits."David S. Miller
This reverts commit efa230f2c68abab817f13473077f8d0cc74f43f3. BQL doesn't work with how this driver currently only takes TX interrupts every 1/4 of the TX ring. That behavior needs to be fixed, but that's a larger non-trivial task and for now we have to revert BQL support as this makes the device currently completely unusable. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2012-05-03net/niu: remove one superfluous dma mask checkSebastian Andrzej Siewior
The idea here seems to be to get a 44bit DMA mask working and if this fails it should fallback to a 32bit DMA mask. The dma_mask variable is assigned once to 44bit and never updated. pci_set_dma_mask() and pci_set_consistent_dma_mask() are both implemented as functions so there is no evil macro which might update dma_mask. Looking at the assembly, I see a call to dma_set_mask() followed by dma_supported() and then a jump passed the second dma_set_mask(). The only way to get to second dma_set_mask() call is by an error code in the first one. So I hereby remove the check since it looks superfluous. Please ignore the path if there is black magic involved. Signed-off-by: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior <bigeasy@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
