2013-01-25hwmon: Replace SENSORS_LIMIT with clamp_valGuenter Roeck
SENSORS_LIMIT and the generic clamp_val have the same functionality, and clamp_val is more efficient. This patch reduces text size by 9052 bytes and bss size by 11624 bytes for x86_64 builds. Some configurations produce the following compile warning: drivers/hwmon/adm1031.c: In function 'set_fan_auto_channel': drivers/hwmon/adm1031.c:292: warning: 'reg' may be used uninitialized in this function While this is a false positive, it can easily be fixed by overloading the return value from get_fan_auto_nearest with both register value and error return code (the register value is never negative). 2008-02-07hwmon: (adm1031) Fix register overwrite in set_fan_div()Jean Delvare
Don't rely on the register cache when setting a new fan clock divider. For one thing, the cache might not have been initialized at all if the driver has just been loaded. For another, the cached values may be old and you never know what can happen in the driver's back. Also invalidate the cache instead of trying to adjust the measured fan speed: the whole point of changing the clock divider is to get a better reading. Just about every i2c chip driver sets the I2C_DF_NOTIFY flag, so we can simply make it the default and drop the flag. If any driver really doesn't want to be notified when i2c adapters are added, that driver can simply omit to set .attach_adapter. The adm9240 driver, in adm9240_detect(), allocates a structure. The error path attempts to kfree() ->client field of it (second one), resulting in an oops (or slab corruption) if the hardware is not present. ->client field in adm1026, adm1031, smsc47b397 and smsc47m1 is the first in ${HWMON}_data structure, but fix them too.
