Let's switch the pipe into interlaced mode and switch off
the TV encoder vertical filter if the pipe vdisplay
matches the TV YSIZE exactly.
While I didn't measure it I presume this might reduce
the power consumption a little bit, and the pixel rate
is halved as the pipe will now fetching in interlaced
mode rather than in progressive mode (effectively the
same difference as between IF-ID vs. PF-ID pfit modes
on more modern hardware) so a bit easier on the memory
bandwidth.

intel_tv_mode_to_mode() assumes the pipe will be in progressive
fetch mode, and thus when programming the pipe into interlaced
mode we have to halve the calculated dotclock to get the correct
field duration.
This becomes more important when we start to program the pipe
into interlaced mode on i965gm as we depend on the timestamps
to get accurate frame counter values. Withot halving the clock
our guesstimated frame counter would tick at twice the expected
speed.

Just like the frame counter, the pixel counter also reads zero
all the time when the TV encoder is used. Fortunately the
scanline counter still works sufficiently well so let's use that
to correct the vblank timestamps. Otherwise the timestamps may
en up out of whack, and since we use them to guesstimate the
vblank counter value that may end up incorrect as well.

On gen3 we must disable the TV encoder vertical filter for >1024
pixel wide sources. Once that's done all we can is try to center
the image on the screen. Naturally the TV mode vertical resolution
must be equal or larger than the user mode vertical resolution
or else we'd have to cut off part of the user mode.
And while we may not be able to respect the user's choice of
top and bottom borders exactly (or we'd have to reject he mode
most likely), we can try to maintain the relative sizes of the
top and bottom border with respect to each orher.
Additionally we must configure the pipe as interlaced if the
TV mode is interlaced.

To make vblank timestamps work better with the TV encoder let's
scale the pipe timings such that the relationship between the
TV active and TV blanking periods is mirrored in the
corresponding pipe timings.
Note that in reality the pipe runs at a faster speed during the
TV vblank, and correspondigly there are periods when the pipe
is enitrely stopped. We pretend that this isn't the case and
as such we incur some error in the vblank timestamps during
the TV vblank. Further explanation of the issues in a big
comment in the code.
This makes the vblank timestamps good enough to make
i965gm (which doesn't have a working frame counter with
the TV encoder) report correct frame numbers. Previously
you could get all kinds of nonsense which resulted in
eg. glxgears reporting that it's running at twice the
actual framerate in most cases.

Now it is just the placeholder for the mode we use for load detection.
We don't need it even for that, and instead we can just rely on

Something that I completely missed when implementing the new MST VCPI
atomic helpers is that with those helpers, there's technically a chance
of us having to grab additional modeset locks in ->compute_config() and
furthermore, that means we have the potential to hit a normal modeset
deadlock. However, because ->compute_config() only returns a bool this
means we can't return -EDEADLK when we need to drop locks and try again
which means we end up just failing the atomic check permanently. Whoops.
So, fix this by modifying ->compute_config() to pass down an actual
error code instead of a bool so that the atomic check can be restarted
on modeset deadlocks.
Thanks to Ville Syrjälä for pointing this out!
Changes since v1:
* Add some newlines
* Return only -EINVAL from hsw_crt_compute_config()
* Propogate return code from intel_dp_compute_dsc_params()
* Change all of the intel_dp_compute_link_config*() variants
* Don't miss if (hdmi_port_clock_valid()) branch in
intel_hdmi_compute_config()

When encountering a connector with the scaling mode property both
intel and modesetting ddxs sometimes add tons of DBLSCAN modes
to the output's mode list. The idea presumably being that since the
output will be going through the panel fitter anyway we can pretend
to use any kind of mode.
Sadly that means we can't reject user modes with the DBLSCAN flag
until we know whether we're going to be using the panel's native
mode or the user mode directly. Doing otherwise means X clients using
xf86vidmode/xrandr will get a protocol error (and often self
terminate as a result) when the kernel refuses to use the requested
mode with the DBLSCAN flag.
To undo the regression we'll move the DBLSCAN checks into the
connector->mode_valid() and encoder->compute_config() hooks.

It's dead code, the core handles all this directly now. This also
allows us to unexport drm_atomic_helper_connector_set_property.
The only special case is nouveau which used one function for both
pre-nv50 legacy modeset code and post-nv50 atomic world instead of 2
vtables. But amounts to exactly the same.
What is rather strange here is how few drivers set this up, I suspect
the earlier patch to handle properties in the core did end up fixing a
pile of possible issues.

intel_tv has properties that are handled in the atomic core, but
needs a modeset to update the properties inside the connector.
The detect(), get_mode() and mode_valid() probe callbacks also
depend on the connector state, which made this a good connector
to convert first. It helped find all the issues when converting
connectors to atomic.
Because of these requirements, connector atomic_check() was added
and connection_mutex is held during probing. The diffstat looks
more favorable now. :)
Changes since v1:
- Add intel_encoder->swap_state to allow updating connector state.
- Add intel_tv->format for detect_mode and mode_valid, updated on atomic commit.
Changes since v2:
- Fix typo in tv_choose_preferred modes function name.
- Assignment of tv properties is done in core, so intel_tv only needs
a atomic_check function. Thanks Ville!
Changes since v3:
- connection_mutex is now held in mode_valid() and get_modes(),
this removes the need for caching parts of the connector_state.
Changes since v4:
- Use the new atomic connector check function.

drm/i915: Remove dead KMS encoder save/restore code.
This was brought over from UMS, and used for a while until we decided
that drm_helper_resume_force_mode was easier and more reliable, since
it didn't require duplicating all the code deleted here. We just
forgot to delete all that junk for a while.

drm_helper_probe_single_connector_modes, v4.
mode_valid() called from drm_helper_probe_single_connector_modes()
may need to look at connector->state because what a valid mode is may
depend on connector properties being set. For example some HDMI modes
might be rejected when a connector property forces the connector
into DVI mode.
Some implementations of detect() already lock all state,
so we have to pass an acquire_ctx to them to prevent a deadlock.
This means changing the function signature of detect() slightly,
and passing the acquire_ctx for locking multiple crtc's.
For the callbacks, it will always be non-zero. To allow callers
not to worry about this, drm_helper_probe_detect_ctx is added
which might handle -EDEADLK for you.
Changes since v1:
- Always set ctx parameter.
Changes since v2:
- Always take connection_mutex when probing.
Changes since v3:
- Remove the ctx from intel_dp_long_pulse, and add
WARN_ON(!connection_mutex) (danvet)
- Update docs to clarify the locking situation. (danvet)

This is mostly code churn, with exception of a few places:
- intel_display.c has changes in intel_sanitize_encoder
- intel_ddi.c has intel_ddi_fdi_disable calling intel_ddi_post_disable,
and required a function change. Also affects intel_display.c
- intel_dp_mst.c passes a NULL crtc_state and conn_state to
intel_ddi_post_disable for shutting down the real encoder.
If we would pass conn_state, then conn_state->connector !=
intel_dig_port->connector and conn_state->best_encoder !=
to_intel_encoder(intel_dig_port).
We also shouldn't pass crtc_state, because in that case the
disabling sequence may potentially be different depending on
which crtc is disabled last. Nice way to introduce bugs.
No other functional changes are done, diff stat is already huge.
Each encoder type will need to be fixed to use the atomic states
separately.
