2019-05-27drm: drop use of drmP.h in drm/*Sam Ravnborg
The use of the drmP.h header file is deprecated. Remove use from all files in drm/* so people do not look there and follow a bad example. Build tested allyesconfig, allmodconfig on x86, arm etc. Including alpha that is as always more challenging than the rest. 2018-09-14drm: Differentiate the lack of an interface from invalid parameterChris Wilson
If the ioctl is not supported on a particular piece of HW/driver combination, report ENOTSUP (aka EOPNOTSUPP) so that it can be easily distinguished from both the lack of the ioctl and from a regular invalid parameter. v2: Across all the kms ioctls we had a mixture of reporting EINVAL, ENODEV and a few ENOTSUPP (most where EINVAL) for a failed drm_core_check_feature(). Update everybody to report ENOTSUPP. v3: ENOTSUPP is an internal errno! It's value (524) does not correspond to a POSIX errno, the one we want is ENOTSUP. However, uapi/asm-generic/errno.h doesn't include ENOTSUP but man errno says "ENOTSUP and EOPNOTSUPP have the same value on Linux, but according to POSIX.1 these error values should be distinct." so use EOPNOTSUPP as its equivalent. 2016-08-08drm: Used DRM_LEGACY for all legacy functionsDaniel Vetter
Except for nouveau, only legacy drivers need this really. And nouveau is already marked up with DRIVER_KMS_LEGACY_CONTEXT as the special case. I've tried to be careful to leave everything related to modeset still using the DRIVER_MODESET flag. Otherwise it's a direct replacement of !DRIVER_MODESET with DRIVER_LEGACY checks. Also helps readability since fewer negative checks overall. 2016-06-21drm: Move master pointer from drm_minor to drm_deviceDaniel Vetter
There can only be one current master, and it's for the overall device. Render/control minors don't support master-based auth at all. This simplifies the master logic a lot, at least in my eyes: All these additional pointer chases are just confusing. While doing the conversion I spotted some locking fail: - drm_lock/drm_auth check dev->master without holding the master_mutex. This is fallout from commit c996fd0b956450563454e7ccc97a82ca31f9d043 Author: Thomas Hellstrom <thellstrom@vmware.com> Date: Tue Feb 25 19:57:44 2014 +0100 drm: Protect the master management with a drm_device::master_mutex v3 but I honestly don't care one bit about those old legacy drivers using this. - debugfs name info should just grab master_mutex. - And the fbdev helper looked at it to figure out whether someone is using KMS. We just need a consistent value, so READ_ONCE. Aside: We should probably check if anyone has opened a control node too, but I guess current userspace doesn't really do that yet. v2: Balance locking, reported by Julia. v3: Rebase on top of Chris' oops fixes. 2016-04-27drm: Hide master MAP cleanup in drm_bufs.cDaniel Vetter
And again make sure it's a no-op for modern drivers. Another case of dev->struct_mutex gone for modern drivers! Note that the entirety of the legacy addmap interface is now protected by DRIVER_MODESET. Note that just auditing kernel code is not enough, since userspace loves to set up legacy maps on it's own for various things - with ums userspace and kernel space share control over resources. v2: Also add a DRIVER_* check like for all other maps functions to really short-circuit the code. And give drm_legacy_rmmap used by the dev unregister code the same treatment. v3: - remove redundant return; (Alex, Chris) - don't special case nouveau with DRIVER_KMS_LEGACY_CONTEXT. v4: Again special case nouveau. The problem is not directly in the ddx, but that it calls dri1 functions from the X server. And those do call drmAddMap. So for real KMS drivers it's the drives responsibility to add an mtrr if it needs one. nouvea, radeon, mgag200, i915 and vmwgfx do that already. Somehow the savage driver also ends up doing that, I have no idea why. Note that gma500 as a pure KMS driver doesn't need MTRR setup since the platforms that it supports all support PAT. So no MTRRs needed to get wc iomappings. The mtrr support in the drm core is all for legacy mappings of garts, framebuffers and registers. This continues the theme started with vm_brk() and vm_munmap(): vm_mmap() does the same thing as do_mmap(), but additionally does the required VM locking. This uninlines (and rewrites it to be clearer) do_mmap(), which sadly duplicates it in mm/mmap.c and mm/nommu.c. But that way we don't have to export our internal do_mmap_pgoff() function. Some day we hopefully don't have to export do_mmap() either, if all modular users can become the simpler vm_mmap() instead. We're actually very close to that already, with the notable exception of the (broken) use in i810, and a couple of stragglers in binfmt_elf. 2011-06-14drm: Compare only lower 32 bits of framebuffer map offsetsTormod Volden
Drivers using multiple framebuffers got broken by commit 41c2e75e60200a860a74b7c84a6375c105e7437f which ignored the framebuffer (or register) map offset when looking for existing maps. The rationale was that the kernel-userspace ABI is fixed at a 32-bit offset, so the real offsets could not always be handed over for comparison. Instead of ignoring the offset we will compare the lower 32 bit. Drivers using multiple framebuffers should just make sure that the lower 32 bit are different. The existing drivers in question are practically limited to 32-bit systems so that should be fine for them. It is assumed that current drivers always specify a correct framebuffer map offset, even if this offset was ignored since above commit. So this patch should not change anything for drivers using only one framebuffer. Drivers needing multiple framebuffers with 64-bit map offsets will need to cook up something, for instance keeping an ID in the lower bit which is to be aligned away when it comes to using the offset. All of above applies to _DRM_REGISTERS as well. Signed-off-by: Tormod Volden <debian.tormod@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com>

2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch.
