2019-09-12ipmi_si_intf: Fix race in timer shutdown handlingJes Sorensen
smi_mod_timer() enables the timer before setting timer_running. This means the timer can be running when we get to stop_timer_and_thread() without timer_running having been set, resulting in del_timer_sync() not being called and the timer being left to cause havoc during shutdown. 2019-08-22ipmi_ssif: avoid registering duplicate ssif interfaceKamlakant Patel
It is possible that SSIF interface entry is present in both DMI and ACPI tables. In SMP systems, in such cases it is possible that ssif_probe could be called simultaneously from i2c interface (from ACPI) and from DMI on different CPUs at kernel boot. Both try to register same SSIF interface simultaneously and result in race. In such cases where ACPI and SMBIOS both IPMI entries are available, we need to prefer ACPI over SMBIOS so that ACPI functions work properly if they use IPMI. So, if we get an ACPI interface and have already registered an SMBIOS at the same address, we need to remove the SMBIOS one and add the ACPI. 2019-08-05ipmi_si: Only schedule continuously in the thread in maintenance modeCorey Minyard
ipmi_thread() uses back-to-back schedule() to poll for command completion which, on some machines, can push up CPU consumption and heavily tax the scheduler locks leading to noticeable overall performance degradation. This was originally added so firmware updates through IPMI would complete in a timely manner. But we can't kill the scheduler locks for that one use case. 2019-06-24driver_find_device: Unify the match function with class_find_device()Suzuki K Poulose
The driver_find_device() accepts a match function pointer to filter the devices for lookup, similar to bus/class_find_device(). However, there is a minor difference in the prototype for the match parameter for driver_find_device() with the now unified version accepted by {bus/class}_find_device(), where it doesn't accept a "const" qualifier for the data argument. This prevents us from reusing the generic match functions for driver_find_device(). For this reason, change the prototype of the driver_find_device() to make the "match" parameter in line with {bus/class}_find_device() and adjust its callers to use the const qualifier. Also, we could now promote the "data" parameter to const as we pass it down as a const parameter to the match functions. 2019-06-24bus_find_device: Unify the match callback with class_find_deviceSuzuki K Poulose
There is an arbitrary difference between the prototypes of bus_find_device() and class_find_device() preventing their callers from passing the same pair of data and match() arguments to both of them, which is the const qualifier used in the prototype of class_find_device(). If that qualifier is also used in the bus_find_device() prototype, it will be possible to pass the same match() callback function to both bus_find_device() and class_find_device(), which will allow some optimizations to be made in order to avoid code duplication going forward. Also with that, constify the "data" parameter as it is passed as a const to the match function. For this reason, change the prototype of bus_find_device() to match the prototype of class_find_device() and adjust its callers to use the const qualifier in accordance with the new prototype of it. 2019-06-19ipmi: ipmb: don't allocate i2c_client on stackArnd Bergmann
The i2c_client structure can be fairly large, which leads to a warning about possible kernel stack overflow in some configurations: drivers/char/ipmi/ipmb_dev_int.c:115:16: error: stack frame size of 1032 bytes in function 'ipmb_write' [-Werror,-Wframe-larger-than=] There is no real reason to even declare an i2c_client, as we can simply call i2c_smbus_xfer() directly instead of the i2c_smbus_write_block_data() wrapper. Convert the ipmb_write() to use an open-coded i2c_smbus_write_block_data() here, without changing the behavior. It seems that there is another problem with this implementation; when user space passes a length of more than I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_MAX bytes, all the rest is silently ignored. This should probably be addressed in a separate patch, but I don't know what the intended behavior is here. 2019-05-06*: convert stream-like files from nonseekable_open -> stream_openKirill Smelkov
Using scripts/coccinelle/api/stream_open.cocci added in 10dce8af3422 ("fs: stream_open - opener for stream-like files so that read and write can run simultaneously without deadlock"), search and convert to stream_open all in-kernel nonseekable_open users for which read and write actually do not depend on ppos and where there is no other methods in file_operations which assume @offset access. I've verified each generated change manually - that it is correct to convert - and each other nonseekable_open instance left - that it is either not correct to convert there, or that it is not converted due to current stream_open.cocci limitations. 2019-04-16ipmi: ipmi_si_hardcode.c: init si_type array to fix a crashTony Camuso
The intended behavior of function ipmi_hardcode_init_one() is to default to kcs interface when no type argument is presented when initializing ipmi with hard coded addresses. However, the array of char pointers allocated on the stack by function ipmi_hardcode_init() was not inited to zeroes, so it contained stack debris. Consequently, passing the cruft stored in this array to function ipmi_hardcode_init_one() caused a crash when it was unable to detect that the char * being passed was nonsense and tried to access the address specified by the bogus pointer. The fix is simply to initialize the si_type array to zeroes, so if there were no type argument given to at the command line, function ipmi_hardcode_init_one() could properly default to the kcs interface. 2019-02-22ipmi_si: Fix crash when using hard-coded deviceCorey Minyard
When excuting a command like: modprobe ipmi_si ports=0xffc0e3 type=bt The system would get an oops. The trouble here is that ipmi_si_hardcode_find_bmc() is called before ipmi_si_platform_init(), but initialization of the hard-coded device creates an IPMI platform device, which won't be initialized yet. The real trouble is that hard-coded devices aren't created with any device, and the fixup is done later. So do it right, create the hard-coded devices as normal platform devices. This required adding some new resource types to the IPMI platform code for passing information required by the hard-coded device and adding some code to remove the hard-coded platform devices on module removal. To enforce the "hard-coded devices passed by the user take priority over firmware devices" rule, some special code was added to check and see if a hard-coded device already exists. The user can ask the message to be returned even if it didn't supply enough memory for the data, and it will return an error but still fills in as much data as possible.
