2019-05-21treewide: Add SPDX license identifier for more missed filesThomas Gleixner
Add SPDX license identifiers to all files which: - Have no license information of any form - Have MODULE_LICENCE("GPL*") inside which was used in the initial scan/conversion to ignore the file These files fall under the project license, GPL v2 only. 2019-01-21perf/core, arch/x86: Use PERF_PMU_CAP_NO_EXCLUDE for exclusion incapable PMUsAndrew Murray
For drivers that do not support context exclusion let's advertise the PERF_PMU_CAP_NOEXCLUDE capability. This ensures that perf will prevent us from handling events where any exclusion flags are set. Let's also remove the now unnecessary check for exclusion flags. PMU drivers that support at least one exclude flag won't have the PERF_PMU_CAP_NOEXCLUDE capability set - these PMU drivers should still check and fail on unsupported exclude flags. These missing tests are not added in this patch. It appears as though the Broadwell-EP DRAM units share the special units quirk with Haswell-EP/KNL. Without this patch, you get really high results (a single DRAM using 20W of power). 2017-02-01perf/x86/intel/rapl: Make package handling more robustThomas Gleixner
The package management code in RAPL relies on package mapping being available before a CPU is started. This changed with: 9d85eb9119f4 ("x86/smpboot: Make logical package management more robust") because the ACPI/BIOS information turned out to be unreliable, but that left RAPL in broken state. This was not noticed because on a regular boot all CPUs are online before RAPL is initialized. A possible fix would be to reintroduce the mess which allocates a package data structure in CPU prepare and when it turns out to already exist in starting throw it away later in the CPU online callback. But that's a horrible hack and not required at all because RAPL becomes functional for perf only in the CPU online callback. That's correct because user space is not yet informed about the CPU being onlined, so nothing caan rely on RAPL being available on that particular CPU. Move the allocation to the CPU online callback and simplify the hotplug handling. At this point the package mapping is established and correct. This also adds a missing check for available package data in the event_init() function. The conversion of Intel PMU drivers into modules did not include reference counting. The machine will crash when attempting to access deleted code if an event from a module PMU is started and the module removed before the event is destroyed. i.e. this crashes the machine: $ insmod intel-rapl-perf.ko $ perf stat -e power/energy-cores/ -C 0 & $ rmmod intel-rapl-perf.ko Set THIS_MODULE to pmu->module in Intel module PMUs so that generic code can handle reference counting and deny rmmod while an event still exists. When the state names got added a script was used to add the extra argument to the calls. The script basically converted the state constant to a string, but the cleanup to convert these strings into meaningful ones did not happen. Replace all the useless strings with 'subsys/xxx/yyy:state' strings which are used in all the other places already. 2016-04-23perf/x86/intel/rapl: Support Skylake RAPL domainsSrinivas Pandruvada
Add Skylake client support for RAPL domains. In addition to RAPL domains in Broadwell clients, it has support for platform domain (aka PSys). The PSys domain controls the entire SoC instead of just a CPU package. Unlike package domain, PSys support requires more than just processor level implementation. The other parts in the system need additional HW level signaling, which OEMs need to support. When not supported, the energy counter register in PSys domain returns 0. Also corrected error in comment for GPU counter, which previously was DRAM counter. RAPL is a per package facility and we already have a mechanism for a dedicated per package reader. So there is no point to have multiple CPUs doing the same. The current implementation actually starts two timers on two CPUs if one does: perf stat -C1,2 -e -e power/energy-pkg .... which makes the whole concept of 1 reader per package moot. What's worse is that the above returns the double of the actual energy consumption, but that's a different problem to address and cannot be solved by removing the pointless per cpuness of that mechanism. Store the PMU pointer in event->pmu_private and use it instead of the per CPU data. Preparatory step to get rid of the per CPU allocations. The usage sites are the perf fast path, so we keep that even after the conversion to per package storage as a CPU to package lookup involves 3 loads versus 1 with the pmu_private pointer.
