2013-07-14sh: delete __cpuinit usage from all sh filesPaul Gortmaker
The __cpuinit type of throwaway sections might have made sense some time ago when RAM was more constrained, but now the savings do not offset the cost and complications. For example, the fix in commit 5e427ec2d0 ("x86: Fix bit corruption at CPU resume time") is a good example of the nasty type of bugs that can be created with improper use of the various __init prefixes. After a discussion on LKML[1] it was decided that cpuinit should go the way of devinit and be phased out. Once all the users are gone, we can then finally remove the macros themselves from linux/init.h. Note that some harmless section mismatch warnings may result, since notify_cpu_starting() and cpu_up() are arch independent (kernel/cpu.c) are flagged as __cpuinit -- so if we remove the __cpuinit from arch specific callers, we will also get section mismatch warnings. As an intermediate step, we intend to turn the linux/init.h cpuinit content into no-ops as early as possible, since that will get rid of these warnings. In any case, they are temporary and harmless. This removes all the arch/sh uses of the __cpuinit macros from all C files. Currently sh does not have any __CPUINIT used in assembly files. 2013-07-09Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net-nextLinus Torvalds
Pull networking updates from David Miller: "This is a re-do of the net-next pull request for the current merge window. The only difference from the one I made the other day is that this has Eliezer's interface renames and the timeout handling changes made based upon your feedback, as well as a few bug fixes that have trickeled in. Highlights: 1) Low latency device polling, eliminating the cost of interrupt handling and context switches. Allows direct polling of a network device from socket operations, such as recvmsg() and poll(). Currently ixgbe, mlx4, and bnx2x support this feature. Full high level description, performance numbers, and design in commit 0a4db187a999 ("Merge branch 'll_poll'") From Eliezer Tamir. 2) With the routing cache removed, ip_check_mc_rcu() gets exercised more than ever before in the case where we have lots of multicast addresses. Use a hash table instead of a simple linked list, from Eric Dumazet. 3) Add driver for Atheros CQA98xx 802.11ac wireless devices, from Bartosz Markowski, Janusz Dziedzic, Kalle Valo, Marek Kwaczynski, Marek Puzyniak, Michal Kazior, and Sujith Manoharan. 4) Support reporting the TUN device persist flag to userspace, from Pavel Emelyanov. 5) Allow controlling network device VF link state using netlink, from Rony Efraim. 6) Support GRE tunneling in openvswitch, from Pravin B Shelar. 7) Adjust SOCK_MIN_RCVBUF and SOCK_MIN_SNDBUF for modern times, from Daniel Borkmann and Eric Dumazet. 8) Allow controlling of TCP quickack behavior on a per-route basis, from Cong Wang. 9) Several bug fixes and improvements to vxlan from Stephen Hemminger, Pravin B Shelar, and Mike Rapoport. In particular, support receiving on multiple UDP ports. 10) Major cleanups, particular in the area of debugging and cookie lifetime handline, to the SCTP protocol code. From Daniel Borkmann. 11) Allow packets to cross network namespaces when traversing tunnel devices. From Nicolas Dichtel. 12) Allow monitoring netlink traffic via AF_PACKET sockets, in a manner akin to how we monitor real network traffic via ptype_all. From Daniel Borkmann. 13) Several bug fixes and improvements for the new alx device driver, from Johannes Berg. 14) Fix scalability issues in the netem packet scheduler's time queue, by using an rbtree. From Eric Dumazet. 15) Several bug fixes in TCP loss recovery handling, from Yuchung Cheng. 16) Add support for GSO segmentation of MPLS packets, from Simon Horman. 17) Make network notifiers have a real data type for the opaque pointer that's passed into them. Use this to properly handle network device flag changes in arp_netdev_event(). From Jiri Pirko and Timo Teräs. 18) Convert several drivers over to module_pci_driver(), from Peter Huewe. 19) tcp_fixup_rcvbuf() can loop 500 times over loopback, just use a O(1) calculation instead. From Eric Dumazet. 20) Support setting of explicit tunnel peer addresses in ipv6, just like ipv4. From Nicolas Dichtel. 21) Protect x86 BPF JIT against spraying attacks, from Eric Dumazet. 22) Prevent a single high rate flow from overruning an individual cpu during RX packet processing via selective flow shedding. From Willem de Bruijn. 23) Don't use spinlocks in TCP md5 signing fast paths, from Eric Dumazet. 24) Don't just drop GSO packets which are above the TBF scheduler's burst limit, chop them up so they are in-bounds instead. Also from Eric Dumazet. 25) VLAN offloads are missed when configured on top of a bridge, fix from Vlad Yasevich. 26) Support IPV6 in ping sockets. From Lorenzo Colitti. 27) Receive flow steering targets should be updated at poll() time too, from David Majnemer. 28) Fix several corner case regressions in PMTU/redirect handling due to the routing cache removal, from Timo Teräs. 29) We have to be mindful of ipv4 mapped ipv6 sockets in upd_v6_push_pending_frames(). From Hannes Frederic Sowa. 30) Fix L2TP sequence number handling bugs, from James Chapman." * git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net-next: (1214 commits) drivers/net: caif: fix wrong rtnl_is_locked() usage drivers/net: enic: release rtnl_lock on error-path vhost-net: fix use-after-free in vhost_net_flush net: mv643xx_eth: do not use port number as platform device id net: sctp: confirm route during forward progress virtio_net: fix race in RX VQ processing virtio: support unlocked queue poll net/cadence/macb: fix bug/typo in extracting gem_irq_read_clear bit Documentation: Fix references to defunct linux-net@vger.kernel.org net/fs: change busy poll time accounting net: rename low latency sockets functions to busy poll bridge: fix some kernel warning in multicast timer sfc: Fix memory leak when discarding scattered packets sit: fix tunnel update via netlink dt:net:stmmac: Add dt specific phy reset callback support. dt:net:stmmac: Add support to dwmac version 3.610 and 3.710 dt:net:stmmac: Allocate platform data only if its NULL. net:stmmac: fix memleak in the open method ipv6: rt6_check_neigh should successfully verify neigh if no NUD information are available net: ipv6: fix wrong ping_v6_sendmsg return value ...

2013-07-03mm: concentrate modification of totalram_pages into the mm coreJiang Liu
Concentrate code to modify totalram_pages into the mm core, so the arch memory initialized code doesn't need to take care of it. With these changes applied, only following functions from mm core modify global variable totalram_pages: free_bootmem_late(), free_all_bootmem(), free_all_bootmem_node(), adjust_managed_page_count(). With this patch applied, it will be much more easier for us to keep totalram_pages and zone->managed_pages in consistence. 2013-07-03mm: enhance free_reserved_area() to support poisoning memory with zeroJiang Liu
Address more review comments from last round of code review. 1) Enhance free_reserved_area() to support poisoning freed memory with pattern '0'. This could be used to get rid of poison_init_mem() on ARM64. 2) A previous patch has disabled memory poison for initmem on s390 by mistake, so restore to the original behavior. 3) Remove redundant PAGE_ALIGN() when calling free_reserved_area(). Wound/wait mutexes are used when other multiple lock acquisitions of a similar type can be done in an arbitrary order. The deadlock handling used here is called wait/wound in the RDBMS literature: The older tasks waits until it can acquire the contended lock. The younger tasks needs to back off and drop all the locks it is currently holding, ie the younger task is wounded. See this LWN.net description of W/W mutexes: https://lwn.net/Articles/548909/ The comments there outline specific usecases for this facility (which have already been implemented for the DRM tree). 2013-06-26arch: Make __mutex_fastpath_lock_retval return whether fastpath succeeded or notMaarten Lankhorst
This will allow me to call functions that have multiple arguments if fastpath fails. This is required to support ticket mutexes, because they need to be able to pass an extra argument to the fail function. Originally I duplicated the functions, by adding __mutex_fastpath_lock_retval_arg. This ended up being just a duplication of the existing function, so a way to test if fastpath was called ended up being better. This also cleaned up the reservation mutex patch some by being able to call an atomic_set instead of atomic_xchg, and making it easier to detect if the wrong unlock function was previously used. The bulk of the code added for these is for pinctrl (using the new subsystem) and for clocks (not yet using the common clock subsystem). The latter will have to get converted in one of the upcoming releases, but shmobile is not ready for that yet. The series also contains Renesas shmobile board changes, adding one board file for each of the three new SoCs. These boards are using a mix of classic and device-tree based probing, as there is still a lot of infrastructure in shmobile that has not been converted to DT yet. 2013-04-30dump_stack: unify debug information printed by show_regs()Tejun Heo
show_regs() is inherently arch-dependent but it does make sense to print generic debug information and some archs already do albeit in slightly different forms. This patch introduces a generic function to print debug information from show_regs() so that different archs print out the same information and it's much easier to modify what's printed. show_regs_print_info() prints out the same debug info as dump_stack() does plus task and thread_info pointers. * Archs which didn't print debug info now do. alpha, arc, blackfin, c6x, cris, frv, h8300, hexagon, ia64, m32r, metag, microblaze, mn10300, openrisc, parisc, score, sh64, sparc, um, xtensa * Already prints debug info. Replaced with show_regs_print_info(). The printed information is superset of what used to be there. arm, arm64, avr32, mips, powerpc, sh32, tile, unicore32, x86 * s390 is special in that it used to print arch-specific information along with generic debug info. Heiko and Martin think that the arch-specific extra isn't worth keeping s390 specfic implementation. Converted to use the generic version. Note that now all archs print the debug info before actual register dumps. An example BUG() dump follows. kernel BUG at /work/os/work/kernel/workqueue.c:4841! invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP DEBUG_PAGEALLOC Modules linked in: CPU: 0 PID: 1 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 3.9.0-rc1-work+ #7 Hardware name: empty empty/S3992, BIOS 080011 10/26/2007 task: ffff88007c85e040 ti: ffff88007c860000 task.ti: ffff88007c860000 RIP: 0010:[<ffffffff8234a07e>] [<ffffffff8234a07e>] init_workqueues+0x4/0x6 RSP: 0000:ffff88007c861ec8 EFLAGS: 00010246 RAX: ffff88007c861fd8 RBX: ffffffff824466a8 RCX: 0000000000000001 RDX: 0000000000000046 RSI: 0000000000000001 RDI: ffffffff8234a07a RBP: ffff88007c861ec8 R08: 0000000000000000 R09: 0000000000000000 R10: 0000000000000001 R11: 0000000000000000 R12: ffffffff8234a07a R13: 0000000000000000 R14: 0000000000000000 R15: 0000000000000000 FS: 0000000000000000(0000) GS:ffff88007dc00000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 000000008005003b CR2: ffff88015f7ff000 CR3: 00000000021f1000 CR4: 00000000000007f0 DR0: 0000000000000000 DR1: 0000000000000000 DR2: 0000000000000000 DR3: 0000000000000000 DR6: 00000000ffff0ff0 DR7: 0000000000000400 Stack: ffff88007c861ef8 ffffffff81000312 ffffffff824466a8 ffff88007c85e650 0000000000000003 0000000000000000 ffff88007c861f38 ffffffff82335e5d ffff88007c862080 ffffffff8223d8c0 ffff88007c862080 ffffffff81c47760 Call Trace: [<ffffffff81000312>] do_one_initcall+0x122/0x170 [<ffffffff82335e5d>] kernel_init_freeable+0x9b/0x1c8 [<ffffffff81c47760>] ? rest_init+0x140/0x140 [<ffffffff81c4776e>] kernel_init+0xe/0xf0 [<ffffffff81c6be9c>] ret_from_fork+0x7c/0xb0 [<ffffffff81c47760>] ? rest_init+0x140/0x140 ... v2: Typo fix in x86-32. v3: CPU number dropped from show_regs_print_info() as dump_stack_print_info() has been updated to print it. s390 specific implementation dropped as requested by s390 maintainers. 2013-04-30dump_stack: consolidate dump_stack() implementations and unify their behaviorsTejun Heo
Both dump_stack() and show_stack() are currently implemented by each architecture. show_stack(NULL, NULL) dumps the backtrace for the current task as does dump_stack(). On some archs, dump_stack() prints extra information - pid, utsname and so on - in addition to the backtrace while the two are identical on other archs. The usages in arch-independent code of the two functions indicate show_stack(NULL, NULL) should print out bare backtrace while dump_stack() is used for debugging purposes when something went wrong, so it does make sense to print additional information on the task which triggered dump_stack(). There's no reason to require archs to implement two separate but mostly identical functions. It leads to unnecessary subtle information. This patch expands the dummy fallback dump_stack() implementation in lib/dump_stack.c such that it prints out debug information (taken from x86) and invokes show_stack(NULL, NULL) and drops arch-specific dump_stack() implementations in all archs except blackfin. Blackfin's dump_stack() does something wonky that I don't understand. Debug information can be printed separately by calling dump_stack_print_info() so that arch-specific dump_stack() implementation can still emit the same debug information. This is used in blackfin. This patch brings the following behavior changes. * On some archs, an extra level in backtrace for show_stack() could be printed. This is because the top frame was determined in dump_stack() on those archs while generic dump_stack() can't do that reliably. It can be compensated by inlining dump_stack() but not sure whether that'd be necessary. * Most archs didn't use to print debug info on dump_stack(). They do now. An example WARN dump follows. WARNING: at kernel/workqueue.c:4841 init_workqueues+0x35/0x505() Hardware name: empty Modules linked in: CPU: 0 PID: 1 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 3.9.0-rc1-work+ #9 0000000000000009 ffff88007c861e08 ffffffff81c614dc ffff88007c861e48 ffffffff8108f50f ffffffff82228240 0000000000000040 ffffffff8234a03c 0000000000000000 0000000000000000 0000000000000000 ffff88007c861e58 Call Trace: [<ffffffff81c614dc>] dump_stack+0x19/0x1b [<ffffffff8108f50f>] warn_slowpath_common+0x7f/0xc0 [<ffffffff8108f56a>] warn_slowpath_null+0x1a/0x20 [<ffffffff8234a071>] init_workqueues+0x35/0x505 ... v2: CPU number added to the generic debug info as requested by s390 folks and dropped the s390 specific dump_stack(). This loses %ksp from the debug message which the maintainers think isn't important enough to keep the s390-specific dump_stack() implementation. dump_stack_print_info() is moved to kernel/printk.c from lib/dump_stack.c. Because linkage is per objecct file, dump_stack_print_info() living in the same lib file as generic dump_stack() means that archs which implement custom dump_stack() - at this point, only blackfin - can't use dump_stack_print_info() as that will bring in the generic version of dump_stack() too. v1 The v1 patch broke build on blackfin due to this issue. 2013-04-29mm/hugetlb: add more arch-defined huge_pte functionsGerald Schaefer
Commit abf09bed3cce ("s390/mm: implement software dirty bits") introduced another difference in the pte layout vs. the pmd layout on s390, thoroughly breaking the s390 support for hugetlbfs. This requires replacing some more pte_xxx functions in mm/hugetlbfs.c with a huge_pte_xxx version. This patch introduces those huge_pte_xxx functions and their generic implementation in asm-generic/hugetlb.h, which will now be included on all architectures supporting hugetlbfs apart from s390. This change will be a no-op for those architectures. 2013-04-24SH: cpuidle: use init/exit common routineDaniel Lezcano
Remove the duplicated code and use the cpuidle common code for initialization. Signed-off-by: Daniel Lezcano <daniel.lezcano@linaro.org> Acked-by: Simon Horman <horms+renesas@verge.net.au> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com>
2013-04-23cpuidle: remove en_core_tk_irqen flagDaniel Lezcano
The en_core_tk_irqen flag is set in all the cpuidle driver which means it is not necessary to specify this flag. Remove the flag and the code related to it. 2013-04-22SH: cpuidle: check error code at initDaniel Lezcano
Registering the driver, or the device, can fail, let's check the return code and return the error code to the PM layer. Signed-off-by: Daniel Lezcano <daniel.lezcano@linaro.org> Acked-by: Simon Horman <horms+renesas@verge.net.au> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com>
2013-04-22SH: cpuidle: initialize the driver's states directlyDaniel Lezcano
Like all the other drivers, let's initialize the structure a compile time instead of init time. The states #1 and #2 are not enabled by default. The init function will check the features of the board in order to enable the state. Signed-off-by: Daniel Lezcano <daniel.lezcano@linaro.org> Acked-by: Simon Horman <horms+renesas@verge.net.au> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com>
2013-04-22SH: cpuidle: remove CPUIDLE_DRIVER_STATE_START usageDaniel Lezcano
The CPUIDLE_DRIVER_STATE_START constant is only set when the kernel compilation option CONFIG_ARCH_HAS_CPU_RELAX is set, but this is only relatated to x86, so it is always zero. Remove the reference to this constant in the code. Signed-off-by: Daniel Lezcano <daniel.lezcano@linaro.org> Acked-by: Simon Horman <horms+renesas@verge.net.au> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com>
2013-04-22SH: cpuidle: remove pointless initializationDaniel Lezcano
The driver is a global static variable automatically initialized to zero. Removing the useless initialization in the init function. 2013-04-18memblock: kill "config MAX_ACTIVE_REGIONS"Paul Bolle
The Kconfig symbol MAX_ACTIVE_REGIONS is unused. Commit 0ee332c1451869963626bf9cac88f165a90990e1 ("memblock: Kill early_node_map[]") removed the only place were it was actually used. But it did not remove its Kconfig entries (for powerpc and sh). Remove those two entries (and the entry for metag, that popped up in v3.9-rc1). 2013-04-16Remove GENERIC_GPIO config optionAlexandre Courbot
GENERIC_GPIO has been made equivalent to GPIOLIB in architecture code and all driver code has been switch to depend on GPIOLIB. It is thus safe to have GENERIC_GPIO removed.
