2020-08-14sh: switch to copy_thread_tls()Christian Brauner
Use the copy_thread_tls() calling convention which passes tls through a register. This is required so we can remove the copy_thread{_tls}() split and remove the HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS macro. 2020-08-14sh: use the generic dma coherent remap allocatorChristoph Hellwig
This switches to using common code for the DMA allocations, including potential use of the CMA allocator if configured. Switching to the generic code enables DMA allocations from atomic context, which is required by the DMA API documentation, and also adds various other minor features drivers start relying upon. It also makes sure we have on tested code base for all architectures that require uncached pte bits for coherent DMA allocations. 2020-08-14sh: don't allow non-coherent DMA for NOMMUChristoph Hellwig
The code handling non-coherent DMA depends on being able to remap code as non-cached. But that can't be done without an MMU, so using this option on NOMMU builds is broken. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Rich Felker <dalias@libc.org>

2020-08-14sh: Replace HTTP links with HTTPS onesAlexander A. Klimov
Rationale: Reduces attack surface on kernel devs opening the links for MITM as HTTPS traffic is much harder to manipulate. Deterministic algorithm: For each file: If not .svg: For each line: If doesn't contain `\bxmlns\b`: For each link, `\bhttp://[^# \t\r\n]*(?:\w|/)`: If neither `\bgnu\.org/license`, nor `\bmozilla\.org/MPL\b`: If both the HTTP and HTTPS versions return 200 OK and serve the same content: Replace HTTP with HTTPS. 2020-06-14treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'Masahiro Yamada
Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over '---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation. There are a variety of indentation styles found. a) 4 spaces + '---help---' b) 7 spaces + '---help---' c) 8 spaces + '---help---' d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---' e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation) f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---' g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---' In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the following commend: $ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/' Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <masahiroy@kernel.org>

2020-06-03mm: remove CONFIG_HAVE_MEMBLOCK_NODE_MAP optionMike Rapoport
CONFIG_HAVE_MEMBLOCK_NODE_MAP is used to differentiate initialization of nodes and zones structures between the systems that have region to node mapping in memblock and those that don't. Currently all the NUMA architectures enable this option and for the non-NUMA systems we can presume that all the memory belongs to node 0 and therefore the compile time configuration option is not required. The remaining few architectures that use DISCONTIGMEM without NUMA are easily updated to use memblock_add_node() instead of memblock_add() and thus have proper correspondence of memblock regions to NUMA nodes. Still, free_area_init_node() must have a backward compatible version because its semantics with and without CONFIG_HAVE_MEMBLOCK_NODE_MAP is different. Once all the architectures will use the new semantics, the entire compatibility layer can be dropped. To avoid addition of extra run time memory to store node id for architectures that keep memblock but have only a single node, the node id field of the memblock_region is guarded by CONFIG_NEED_MULTIPLE_NODES and the corresponding accessors presume that in those cases it is always 0. 2020-03-03kbuild: use KBUILD_DEFCONFIG as the fallback for DEFCONFIG_LISTMasahiro Yamada
Most of the Kconfig commands (except defconfig and all*config) read the .config file as a base set of CONFIG options. When it does not exist, the files in DEFCONFIG_LIST are searched in this order and loaded if found. I do not see much sense in the last two lines in DEFCONFIG_LIST. [1] ARCH_DEFCONFIG The entry for DEFCONFIG_LIST is guarded by 'depends on !UML'. So, the ARCH_DEFCONFIG definition in arch/x86/um/Kconfig is meaningless. arch/{sh,sparc,x86}/Kconfig define ARCH_DEFCONFIG depending on 32 or 64 bit variant symbols. This is a little bit strange; ARCH_DEFCONFIG should be a fixed string because the base config file is loaded before the symbol evaluation stage. Using KBUILD_DEFCONFIG makes more sense because it is fixed before Kconfig is invoked. Fortunately, arch/{sh,sparc,x86}/Makefile define it in the same way, and it works as expected. Hence, replace ARCH_DEFCONFIG with "arch/$(SRCARCH)/configs/$(KBUILD_DEFCONFIG)". [2] arch/$(ARCH)/defconfig This file path is no longer valid. The defconfig files are always located in the arch configs/ directories. $ find arch -name defconfig | sort arch/alpha/configs/defconfig arch/arm64/configs/defconfig arch/csky/configs/defconfig arch/nds32/configs/defconfig arch/riscv/configs/defconfig arch/s390/configs/defconfig arch/unicore32/configs/defconfig The path arch/*/configs/defconfig is already covered by "arch/$(SRCARCH)/configs/$(KBUILD_DEFCONFIG)". So, this file path is not necessary. I moved the default KBUILD_DEFCONFIG to the top Makefile. Otherwise, the 7 architectures listed above would end up with endless loop of syncconfig. 2019-09-04dma-mapping: remove CONFIG_ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAPChristoph Hellwig
CONFIG_ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP is now functionally identical to !CONFIG_MMU, so remove the separate symbol. The only difference is that arm did not set it for !CONFIG_MMU, but arm uses a separate dma mapping implementation including its own mmap method, which is handled by moving the CONFIG_MMU check in dma_can_mmap so that is only applies to the dma-direct case, just as the other ifdefs for it. 2019-06-14docs: kdump: convert docs to ReST and rename to *.rstMauro Carvalho Chehab
Convert kdump documentation to ReST and add it to the user faced manual, as the documents are mainly focused on sysadmins that would be enabling kdump. Note: the vmcoreinfo.rst has one very long title on one of its sub-sections: PG_lru|PG_private|PG_swapcache|PG_swapbacked|PG_slab|PG_hwpoision|PG_head_mask|PAGE_BUDDY_MAPCOUNT_VALUE(~PG_buddy)|PAGE_OFFLINE_MAPCOUNT_VALUE(~PG_offline) I opted to break this one, into two entries with the same content, in order to make it easier to display after being parsed in html and PDF. The conversion is actually: - add blank lines and identation in order to identify paragraphs; - fix tables markups; - add some lists markups; - mark literal blocks; - adjust title markups. At its new index.rst, let's add a :orphan: while this is not linked to the main index.rst file, in order to avoid build warnings. 2019-05-14mm: memblock: make keeping memblock memory opt-in rather than opt-outMike Rapoport
Most architectures do not need the memblock memory after the page allocator is initialized, but only few enable ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK in the arch Kconfig. Replacing ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK with ARCH_KEEP_MEMBLOCK and inverting the logic makes it clear which architectures actually use memblock after system initialization and skips the necessity to add ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK to the architectures that are still missing that option. 2019-05-14sh: advertise gigantic page supportAlexandre Ghiti
Patch series "Fix free/allocation of runtime gigantic pages", v8. This series fixes sh and sparc that did not advertise their gigantic page support and then were not able to allocate and free those pages at runtime. It renames MEMORY_ISOLATION && COMPACTION || CMA condition into the more accurate CONTIG_ALLOC, since it allows the definition of alloc_contig_range function. Finally, it then fixes the wrong definition of ARCH_HAS_GIGANTIC_PAGE config that, without MEMORY_ISOLATION && COMPACTION || CMA defined, did not allow architectures to free boottime allocated gigantic pages although unrelated. This patch (of 4): sh actually supports gigantic pages and selecting ARCH_HAS_GIGANTIC_PAGE allows it to allocate and free gigantic pages at runtime. At least sdk7786_defconfig exposes such a configuration with huge pages of 64MB, pages of 4KB and MAX_ORDER = 11: HPAGE_SHIFT (26) - PAGE_SHIFT (12) = 14 >= MAX_ORDER (11) Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20190327063626.18421-2-alex@ghiti.fr Signed-off-by: Alexandre Ghiti <alex@ghiti.fr> Reviewed-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Aneesh Kumar K.V <aneesh.kumar@linux.ibm.com> Cc: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> Cc: Vlastimil Babka <vbabka@suse.cz> Cc: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Cc: Will Deacon <will.deacon@arm.com> Cc: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Cc: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org> Cc: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com> Cc: Heiko Carstens <heiko.carstens@de.ibm.com> Cc: Yoshinori Sato <ysato@users.sourceforge.jp> Cc: Rich Felker <dalias@libc.org> Cc: David S. 2019-04-03locking/rwsem: Remove rwsem-spinlock.c & use rwsem-xadd.c for all archsWaiman Long
Currently, we have two different implementation of rwsem: 1) CONFIG_RWSEM_GENERIC_SPINLOCK (rwsem-spinlock.c) 2) CONFIG_RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM (rwsem-xadd.c) As we are going to use a single generic implementation for rwsem-xadd.c and no architecture-specific code will be needed, there is no point in keeping two different implementations of rwsem. In most cases, the performance of rwsem-spinlock.c will be worse. It also doesn't get all the performance tuning and optimizations that had been implemented in rwsem-xadd.c over the years. For simplication, we are going to remove rwsem-spinlock.c and make all architectures use a single implementation of rwsem - rwsem-xadd.c. All references to RWSEM_GENERIC_SPINLOCK and RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM in the code are removed. 2019-02-1932-bit userspace ABI: introduce ARCH_32BIT_OFF_T config optionYury Norov
All new 32-bit architectures should have 64-bit userspace off_t type, but existing architectures has 32-bit ones. To enforce the rule, new config option is added to arch/Kconfig that defaults ARCH_32BIT_OFF_T to be disabled for new 32-bit architectures. All existing 32-bit architectures enable it explicitly. New option affects force_o_largefile() behaviour. Namely, if userspace off_t is 64-bits long, we have no reason to reject user to open big files. Note that even if architectures has only 64-bit off_t in the kernel (arc, c6x, h8300, hexagon, nios2, openrisc, and unicore32), a libc may use 32-bit off_t, and therefore want to limit the file size to 4GB unless specified differently in the open flags. 2018-12-22treewide: surround Kconfig file paths with double quotesMasahiro Yamada
The Kconfig lexer supports special characters such as '.' and '/' in the parameter context. In my understanding, the reason is just to support bare file paths in the source statement. I do not see a good reason to complicate Kconfig for the room of ambiguity. The majority of code already surrounds file paths with double quotes, and it makes sense since file paths are constant string literals. Make it treewide consistent now. 2018-12-13dma-mapping: always build the direct mapping codeChristoph Hellwig
All architectures except for sparc64 use the dma-direct code in some form, and even for sparc64 we had the discussion of a direct mapping mode a while ago. In preparation for directly calling the direct mapping code don't bother having it optionally but always build the code in. This is a minor hardship for some powerpc and arm configs that don't pull it in yet (although they should in a relase ot two), and sparc64 which currently doesn't need it at all, but it will reduce the ifdef mess we'd otherwise need significantly. 2018-06-07mm: introduce ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIALLaurent Dufour
Currently the PTE special supports is turned on in per architecture header files. Most of the time, it is defined in arch/*/include/asm/pgtable.h depending or not on some other per architecture static definition. This patch introduce a new configuration variable to manage this directly in the Kconfig files. It would later replace __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL. Here notes for some architecture where the definition of __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is not obvious: arm __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL which is currently defined in arch/arm/include/asm/pgtable-3level.h which is included by arch/arm/include/asm/pgtable.h when CONFIG_ARM_LPAE is set. So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL if ARM_LPAE. powerpc __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is defined in 2 files: - arch/powerpc/include/asm/book3s/64/pgtable.h - arch/powerpc/include/asm/pte-common.h The first one is included if (PPC_BOOK3S & PPC64) while the second is included in all the other cases. So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL all the time. sparc: __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is defined if defined(__sparc__) && defined(__arch64__) which are defined through the compiler in sparc/Makefile if !SPARC32 which I assume to be if SPARC64. So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL if SPARC64 There is no functional change introduced by this patch.
