2014-08-09Merge branch 'signal-cleanup' of ↵Linus Torvalds
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rw/misc Pull arch signal handling cleanup from Richard Weinberger: "This patch series moves all remaining archs to the get_signal(), signal_setup_done() and sigsp() functions. Currently these archs use open coded variants of the said functions. Further, unused parameters get removed from get_signal_to_deliver(), tracehook_signal_handler() and signal_delivered(). At the end of the day we save around 500 lines of code." * 'signal-cleanup' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rw/misc: (43 commits) powerpc: Use sigsp() openrisc: Use sigsp() mn10300: Use sigsp() mips: Use sigsp() microblaze: Use sigsp() metag: Use sigsp() m68k: Use sigsp() m32r: Use sigsp() hexagon: Use sigsp() frv: Use sigsp() cris: Use sigsp() c6x: Use sigsp() blackfin: Use sigsp() avr32: Use sigsp() arm64: Use sigsp() arc: Use sigsp() sas_ss_flags: Remove nested ternary if Rip out get_signal_to_deliver() Clean up signal_delivered() tracehook_signal_handler: Remove sig, info, ka and regs ...

2014-08-08kexec: load and relocate purgatory at kernel load timeVivek Goyal
Load purgatory code in RAM and relocate it based on the location. Relocation code has been inspired by module relocation code and purgatory relocation code in kexec-tools. Also compute the checksums of loaded kexec segments and store them in purgatory. Arch independent code provides this functionality so that arch dependent bootloaders can make use of it. Helper functions are provided to get/set symbol values in purgatory which are used by bootloaders later to set things like stack and entry point of second kernel etc. Signed-off-by: Vivek Goyal <vgoyal@redhat.com> Cc: Borislav Petkov <bp@suse.de> Cc: Michael Kerrisk <mtk.manpages@gmail.com> Cc: Yinghai Lu <yinghai@kernel.org> Cc: Eric Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Cc: H. 2014-08-08arm64,ia64,ppc,s390,sh,tile,um,x86,mm: remove default gate areaAndy Lutomirski
The core mm code will provide a default gate area based on FIXADDR_USER_START and FIXADDR_USER_END if !defined(__HAVE_ARCH_GATE_AREA) && defined(AT_SYSINFO_EHDR). This default is only useful for ia64. arm64, ppc, s390, sh, tile, 64-bit UML, and x86_32 have their own code just to disable it. arm, 32-bit UML, and x86_64 have gate areas, but they have their own implementations. This gets rid of the default and moves the code into ia64. This should save some code on architectures without a gate area: it's now possible to inline the gate_area functions in the default case. Pull second round of KVM changes from Paolo Bonzini: "Here are the PPC and ARM changes for KVM, which I separated because they had small conflicts (respectively within KVM documentation, and with 3.16-rc changes). Since they were all within the subsystem, I took care of them. Stephen Rothwell reported some snags in PPC builds, but they are all fixed now; the latest linux-next report was clean. New features for ARM include: - KVM VGIC v2 emulation on GICv3 hardware - Big-Endian support for arm/arm64 (guest and host) - Debug Architecture support for arm64 (arm32 is on Christoffer's todo list) And for PPC: - Book3S: Good number of LE host fixes, enable HV on LE - Book3S HV: Add in-guest debug support This release drops support for KVM on the PPC440. Now we just need to fix all in kernel users and the gazillion of user space interfaces which rely on timespec/timeval :) - Better cache layout for the timekeeping internal data structures. - Proper nanosecond based interfaces for in kernel users. - Tree wide cleanup of code which wants nanoseconds but does hoops and loops to convert back and forth from timespecs. Some of it definitely belongs into the ugly code museum. - Consolidation of the timekeeping interface zoo. - A fast NMI safe accessor to clock monotonic for tracing. This is a long standing request to support correlated user/kernel space traces. With proper NTP frequency correction it's also suitable for correlation of traces accross separate machines. - Checkpoint/restart support for timerfd. - A few NOHZ[_FULL] improvements in the [hr]timer code. - Code move from kernel to kernel/time of all time* related code. - New clocksource/event drivers from the ARM universe. I'm really impressed that despite an architected timer in the newer chips SoC manufacturers insist on inventing new and differently broken SoC specific timers. [ Ed. "Impressed"? I don't think that word means what you think it means ] - Another round of code move from arch to drivers. 2014-08-05KVM: Give IRQFD its own separate enabling Kconfig optionPaul Mackerras
Currently, the IRQFD code is conditional on CONFIG_HAVE_KVM_IRQ_ROUTING. So that we can have the IRQFD code compiled in without having the IRQ routing code, this creates a new CONFIG_HAVE_KVM_IRQFD, makes the IRQFD code conditional on it instead of CONFIG_HAVE_KVM_IRQ_ROUTING, and makes all the platforms that currently select HAVE_KVM_IRQ_ROUTING also select HAVE_KVM_IRQFD. 2014-08-05KVM: irqchip: Provide and use accessors for irq routing tablePaul Mackerras
This provides accessor functions for the KVM interrupt mappings, in order to reduce the amount of code that accesses the fields of the kvm_irq_routing_table struct, and restrict that code to one file, virt/kvm/irqchip.c. The new functions are kvm_irq_map_gsi(), which maps from a global interrupt number to a set of IRQ routing entries, and kvm_irq_map_chip_pin, which maps from IRQ chip and pin numbers to a global interrupt number. This also moves the update of kvm_irq_routing_table::chip[][] into irqchip.c, out of the various kvm_set_routing_entry implementations. That means that none of the kvm_set_routing_entry implementations need the kvm_irq_routing_table argument anymore, so this removes it. This does not change any locking or data lifetime rules. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-trace Pull tracing updates from Steven Rostedt: "This pull request has a lot of work done. The main thing is the changes to the ftrace function callback infrastructure. It's introducing a way to allow different functions to call directly different trampolines instead of all calling the same "mcount" one. The only user of this for now is the function graph tracer, which always had a different trampoline, but the function tracer trampoline was called and did basically nothing, and then the function graph tracer trampoline was called. The difference now, is that the function graph tracer trampoline can be called directly if a function is only being traced by the function graph trampoline. If function tracing is also happening on the same function, the old way is still done. The accounting for this takes up more memory when function graph tracing is activated, as it needs to keep track of which functions it uses. I have a new way that wont take as much memory, but it's not ready yet for this merge window, and will have to wait for the next one. Another big change was the removal of the ftrace_start/stop() calls that were used by the suspend/resume code that stopped function tracing when entering into suspend and resume paths. The stop of ftrace was done because there was some function that would crash the system if one called smp_processor_id()! The stop/start was a big hammer to solve the issue at the time, which was when ftrace was first introduced into Linux. Now ftrace has better infrastructure to debug such issues, and I found the problem function and labeled it with "notrace" and function tracing can now safely be activated all the way down into the guts of suspend and resume Other changes include clean ups of uprobe code, clean up of the trace_seq() code, and other various small fixes and clean ups to ftrace and tracing" * tag 'trace-3.17' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-trace: (57 commits) ftrace: Add warning if tramp hash does not match nr_trampolines ftrace: Fix trampoline hash update check on rec->flags ring-buffer: Use rb_page_size() instead of open coded head_page size ftrace: Rename ftrace_ops field from trampolines to nr_trampolines tracing: Convert local function_graph functions to static ftrace: Do not copy old hash when resetting tracing: let user specify tracing_thresh after selecting function_graph ring-buffer: Always run per-cpu ring buffer resize with schedule_work_on() tracing: Remove function_trace_stop and HAVE_FUNCTION_TRACE_MCOUNT_TEST s390/ftrace: remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop arm64, ftrace: Remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop Blackfin: ftrace: Remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop metag: ftrace: Remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop microblaze: ftrace: Remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop MIPS: ftrace: Remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop parisc: ftrace: Remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop sh: ftrace: Remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop sparc64,ftrace: Remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop tile: ftrace: Remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop ftrace: x86: Remove check of obsolete variable function_trace_stop ...

2014-08-01s390/mm: implement dirty bits for large segment table entriesMartin Schwidefsky
The large segment table entry format has block of bits for the ACC/F values for the large page. These bits are valid only if another bit (AV bit 0x10000) of the segment table entry is set. The ACC/F bits do not have a meaning if the AV bit is off. This allows to put the THP splitting bit, the segment young bit and the new segment dirty bit into the ACC/F bits as long as the AV bit stays off. The dirty and young information is only available if the pmd is large. Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>

2014-07-31KVM: s390: rework broken SIGP STOP interrupt handlingDavid Hildenbrand
A VCPU might never stop if it intercepts (for whatever reason) between "fake interrupt delivery" and execution of the stop function. Heart of the problem is that SIGP STOP is an interrupt that has to be processed on every SIE entry until the VCPU finally executes the stop function. This problem was made apparent by commit 7dfc63cf977447e09b1072911c2 (KVM: s390: allow only one SIGP STOP (AND STORE STATUS) at a time). With the old code, the guest could (incorrectly) inject SIGP STOPs multiple times. The bug of losing a sigp stop exists in KVM before 7dfc63cf97, but it was hidden by Linux guests doing a sigp stop loop. The new code (rightfully) returns CC=2 and does not queue a new interrupt. This patch is a simple fix of the problem. Longterm we are going to rework that code - e.g. get rid of the action bits and so on. 2014-07-28s390/irq: improve displayed interrupt order in /proc/interruptsHendrik Brueckner
Rework the irqclass_main_desc and irqclass_sub_desc data structures which are used to report detaild IRQ statistics in /proc/interrupts. When called from the procfs ops, the entries in the structures are processed one by one. The index of an IRQ in the structures is identical to its definition in the "enum interruption_class". To control and (re)order the displayed sequence, introduce an irq member in each entry. This helps to display related IRQs together without changing the assigned number in the interruption_class enumeration. That means, adding and displaying new IRQs are independent. Finally, this new behavior improves to maintain a kernel ABI. Signed-off-by: Hendrik Brueckner <brueckner@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>

The non-scalar ktime_t implementation is basically a timespec which has to be changed to support dates past 2038 on 32bit systems. This patch removes the non-scalar ktime_t implementation, forcing the scalar s64 nanosecond version on all architectures. This may have additional performance overhead on some 32bit systems when converting between ktime_t and timespec structures, however the majority of 32bit systems (arm and i386) were already using scalar ktime_t, so no performance regressions will be seen on those platforms. On affected platforms, I'm open to finding optimizations, including avoiding converting to timespecs where possible. 2014-07-22s390/pci: introduce lazy IOTLB flushing for DMA unmapGerald Schaefer
This changes the default IOTLB flushing method to lazy flushing, which means that there will be no direct flush after each DMA unmap operation. The only IOTLB flush will then happen after each wrap-around. A new kernel parameter "s390_iommu=" is also introduced, to allow changing the flushing behaviour to the old strict method. 2014-07-17arch, locking: Ciao arch_mutex_cpu_relax()Davidlohr Bueso
The arch_mutex_cpu_relax() function, introduced by 34b133f, is hacky and ugly. It was added a few years ago to address the fact that common cpu_relax() calls include yielding on s390, and thus impact the optimistic spinning functionality of mutexes. Nowadays we use this function well beyond mutexes: rwsem, qrwlock, mcs and lockref. Since the macro that defines the call is in the mutex header, any users must include mutex.h and the naming is misleading as well. This patch (i) renames the call to cpu_relax_lowlatency ("relax, but only if you can do it with very low latency") and (ii) defines it in each arch's asm/processor.h local header, just like for regular cpu_relax functions. On all archs, except s390, cpu_relax_lowlatency is simply cpu_relax, and thus we can take it out of mutex.h. While this can seem redundant, I believe it is a good choice as it allows us to move out arch specific logic from generic locking primitives and enables future(?) archs to transparently define it, similarly to System Z. 2014-07-16perf kvm: Add stat support on s390Alexander Yarygin
On s390, the vmexit event has a tree-like structure: between exit_event_begin and exit_event_end several other events may happen and with each of them refining the previous ones. This patch adds a decoder for such events to the generic code and also the files <asm/kvm_perf.h> and kvm-stat.c for s390. Commands 'perf kvm stat record', 'report' and 'live' are supported. 2014-07-16s390: fix restore of invalid floating-point-controlMartin Schwidefsky
The fixup of the inline assembly to restore the floating-point-control register needs to check for instruction address *after* the lfcp instruction as the specification and data exceptions are suppresssing. Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
2014-07-16s390/ptrace: fix PSW mask checkMartin Schwidefsky
The PSW mask check of the PTRACE_POKEUSR_AREA command is incorrect. The PSW_MASK_USER define contains the PSW_MASK_ASC bits, the ptrace interface accepts all combinations for the address-space-control bits. To protect the kernel space the PSW mask check in ptrace needs to reject the address-space-control bit combination for home space. 2014-07-16s390/MSI: Use standard mask and unmask funtionsYijing Wang
MSI irqchip in s390 has its own mask and unmask MSI irq functions, zpci_enable_irq() and zpci_disable_irq(). They mask and unmask MSI irq in standard ways, no arch special. MSI driver provides two global standard functions mask_msi_irq() and unmask_msi_irq(). Local zpci_enable_irq() and zpci_disable_irq() are almost the same as the standard two. the difference is local mask/unmask functions read the mask status before mask and unmask everytime. Then change the value and rewrite to hardware. In standard functions, save the mask status after mask and unmask msi irq, and use the cached status to change the mask status. When we mask or unmask a MSI irq, we always cache its mask status except we know need not to cache it, like in pci_msi_shutdown. So use the standard functions to replace the local is safe.
