2012-11-19of/net/mdio-gpio: Fix pdev->id issue when using devicetrees.Srinivas Kandagatla
When the mdio-gpio driver is probed via device trees, the platform device id is set as -1, However the pdev->id is re-used as bus-id for while creating mdio gpio bus. So For device tree case the mdio-gpio bus name appears as "gpio-ffffffff" where as for non-device tree case the bus name appears as "gpio-<bus-num>" Which means the bus_id is fixed in device tree case, so we can't have two mdio gpio buses via device trees. Assigning a logical bus number via device tree solves the problem and the bus name is much consistent with non-device tree bus name. Without this patch 1. we can't support two mdio-gpio buses via device trees. 2. we should always pass gpio-ffffffff as bus name to phy_connect, very different to non-device tree bus name. So, setting up the bus_id via aliases from device tree is the right solution and other drivers do similar thing. 2012-11-16memcg: oom: fix totalpages calculation for memory.swappiness==0Michal Hocko
oom_badness() takes a totalpages argument which says how many pages are available and it uses it as a base for the score calculation. The value is calculated by mem_cgroup_get_limit which considers both limit and total_swap_pages (resp. memsw portion of it). This is usually correct but since fe35004fbf9e ("mm: avoid swapping out with swappiness==0") we do not swap when swappiness is 0 which means that we cannot really use up all the totalpages pages. This in turn confuses oom score calculation if the memcg limit is much smaller than the available swap because the used memory (capped by the limit) is negligible comparing to totalpages so the resulting score is too small if adj!=0 (typically task with CAP_SYS_ADMIN or non zero oom_score_adj). A wrong process might be selected as result. The problem can be worked around by checking mem_cgroup_swappiness==0 and not considering swap at all in such a case. 2012-11-16mm, oom: reintroduce /proc/pid/oom_adjDavid Rientjes
This is mostly a revert of 01dc52ebdf47 ("oom: remove deprecated oom_adj") from Davidlohr Bueso. It reintroduces /proc/pid/oom_adj for backwards compatibility with earlier kernels. It simply scales the value linearly when /proc/pid/oom_score_adj is written. The major difference is that its scheduled removal is no longer included in Documentation/feature-removal-schedule.txt. We do warn users with a single printk, though, to suggest the more powerful and supported /proc/pid/oom_score_adj interface. Reported-by: Artem S. Included changes: - minimal fixes to the packet layout to avoid the __packed attribute when not needed - new packet type called UNICAST_4ADDR: in this packet it is possible to find both source and destination node (in the classic UNICAST header only the destination field exists). - a new feature: Distributed ARP Table (D.A.T.). It aims to reduce ARP lookups latency by means of a simil-DHT approach.
2012-11-07packet: tx_ring: allow the user to choose tx data offsetPaul Chavent
The tx data offset of packet mmap tx ring used to be : (TPACKET2_HDRLEN - sizeof(struct sockaddr_ll)) The problem is that, with SOCK_RAW socket, the payload (14 bytes after the beginning of the user data) is misaligned. This patch allows to let the user gives an offset for it's tx data if he desires. Set sock option PACKET_TX_HAS_OFF to 1, then specify in each frame of your tx ring tp_net for SOCK_DGRAM, or tp_mac for SOCK_RAW. 2012-10-26sctp: Make hmac algorithm selection for cookie generation dynamicNeil Horman
Currently sctp allows for the optional use of md5 of sha1 hmac algorithms to generate cookie values when establishing new connections via two build time config options. Theres no real reason to make this a static selection. We can add a sysctl that allows for the dynamic selection of these algorithms at run time, with the default value determined by the corresponding crypto library availability. This comes in handy when, for example running a system in FIPS mode, where use of md5 is disallowed, but SHA1 is permitted. Note: This new sysctl has no corresponding socket option to select the cookie hmac algorithm. I chose not to implement that intentionally, as RFC 6458 contains no option for this value, and I opted not to pollute the socket option namespace. Change notes: v2) * Updated subject to have the proper sctp prefix as per Dave M. * Replaced deafult selection options with new options that allow developers to explicitly select available hmac algs at build time as per suggestion by Vlad Y. I'm aware that is is a little late for the UAPI renames for the DVB API, but IMHO, it is better to merge it for 3.7, due to two reasons: 1) There is a major rename at 3.7 (not only uapi changes, but also the entire media drivers were reorganized on 3.7, in order to simplify the Kconfig logic, and easy drivers selection, especially for hybrid devices). By confining all those renames there at 3.7 it will cause all the harm at for media developers on just one shot. Stable backports upstream and at distros will likely welcome it as well, as they won't need to check what changed on 3.7 and what was postponed for on 3.8. 2) The V4L2 DocBook Makefile creates a cross-reference between the media API headers and the specs. This helps us _a_lot_ to be sure that all API improvements are properly documented. Every time a header changes from one place to another, DocBook/media/Makefile needs to be patched.
